Man, O man...
Went on another mushroom hunting adventure through the forest. Came upon many, many species...some which I have not seen as of yet. Spring has been coming upon us and the winter mushrooms have now turned to, well, goo
Now its time for the spring season!
Here are some pictures, I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed taking them.
This is Helvella lacunosa. "The fluted black elfin saddle)

These are Marasmius sp.

This is Albatrellus flettii. "The Blue-capped polypore" This mushroom really smelled like blueberries. It is said to be edible, but, I didn't take it home.

Clavariadelphus pistillaris. "The common club fungi"

Some purple stuff growing off an oak log!

I was really interested in this mushroom. Wondering what it could be

You just stocked up my wallpaper directory for the next 2 months. Awesome photos and ID's.
If there is ever an opening for a new ADMIN for hunting forum, you are a natural.
Keep up the great work.

Nope, L. rachodes has white gills, and a bulbous base. This specimen has pinkish grey gills with an equal base. It smells like an Agaricus.
Im thinking its an Agaricus, but, im still unsure.

Excellent photos again. You're having a great season.
That last one suggests Agaricus, as you said. A spore print will help verify genus. To get the species we'll also need to know about bruising, especially inside the base of the stem. And even then the Agaricus are difficult.
Happy mushrooming!

It was the only specimen I found. I didn't take it home because I didn't feel like lugging a backpack around today. I was on a 6 hour hike...with no water..... er...DOH!
Anyways, ToxicMan, have you seen the Blue polypore before? I have not heard much about this mushroom. I thought it was an old rotten Jack-o-latern at first, but when I went up to it and touched it, it was super thick. The smell was great as well!
Sorry for the LARGE pictures btw guys.. I forgot to resize them!

a very fine camera..... impressive.
Question: how do you get your high quality pics to be so large, and still fit the upload llimits from the shroomery? I'm taking some pics that are 3 megs+ that have to be shrunk/chopped.. losing a lot of image quality before uploading.
beautiful pics, and aint those elvish saddles somethin' else? got myself a handful the other day. great find.

No, I've never seen that Albatrellus before. It is listed as a species that has been found in Colorado. David Arora doesn't mention an odor at all. He also states that it's pretty rare in California.
Do you associate with a local mycological society? Given some of the odd things you find, it would be good if some of them ended up in an official herbarium.

No, but, Id like to. I should look them up!!
My friend talked to one of David Arora's associate or friend or partner last Sunday at work. It just so happend that they met and talked about mushrooms for a while. So we got his phone number, because he wantd to see some of the pictures we took....so that might be sweet....
The blue polypore had just the best smell of all time...I too noticed there was no comments on the odor in the book.
