Could it be that there have been no terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11 because the terrorists know that America will actually fight back?

Surely people commited enough to commit suicide in the name of the Lord Almighty really wouldn't care about human retribution. Gee... could it be that it's not really like that because it's blown out of proportion?

Quote:

By the way, you will note that there have been plenty of terrorist attacks since 9/11 in countries incapable of or unwilling to fight back -- Madrid ring a bell for you? Philippines? Kidnapping of French journalists? Nightclub in Bali?

And the U.S. should be worried about that because...? Shit, people have been blowing each up over the same streches of land in Africa and Asia with actual military equipment. Were was the Edi Ameine (sp?) and Pol Pot hysteria when we needed it?

But did you see a police state and a massive crackdown against red
neck militia guys after Oklahoma City?

Compare Islamic extremists and red neck militia guys who want to use
carnage to bring down the U.S. government. The Islamists have
many more followers, much more money, much more influence, and much
more power.

It's futile, like this War on Terrorism crap.

I disagree with some of the things Bush has done, and I believe that
our foreign policy has excacerbated the situation, but we still
need to realize that the threat is real and we need to take steps
to defend ourselves. One of the most important steps is realizing
that the threat is serious...because it is.

And that has to do with the hysteria in the U.S. how?

I haven't seen hysteria in the U.S. about terrorism. I have seen
caution and concern, which is totally acceptable and understandable.

Well, they don't have much money and not a whole lot of power and influence outside of their neck of the woods. They aren't even really united and organized.

I never said it doesn't exist,it's just blown wildly out of proportion. Of course we have to defend ourselves, but all this fear and macho parading that the U.S. seems to have is exaburating the situation I think.

I see flat out hysteria, although it probably varies considerably across the country. For example,it seems to be one of the only major issue in this presedential campaign. Do you think Bush would be anywhere near as popular as he is if he wasn't seen as being hard on terrorism?

Just look at the new-any news major outlet. Whenever something violent happens, the first thing the say usually is that "it's definately not terrorism related". Some whacko with a gun took about half a dozen people hostage in Jacksonville at a busines office, and tons of people we're going crazy that it was a terrorist attack, even though the easiest explanation was that it was simply an unstable malconent with a grudge. There is almost no reason that there would be a terrorist attack like that around here.

I was talking with my psychiatrist about his treatment of psychotics one day. He told me that since 9/11,the paranoid delusion that the government is going after someone has been largly replaced with paranoid delusions about terrorist attacks in many cases he has treated.

Well,they don't have much money

Bin Laden had enough money to run large camps full of people, finance
jihad throughout the world, and fund terrorist operations. I have
heard evidence that detailed how money going to Islamic charities
is often diverted to terrorists. The 9-11 attacks were
estimated to have cost 400,000 to 500,000 dollars. Islamic
terrorists have money.

and not a whole lot of power and influence outside of their neck of
the woods. They aren't even really united and organized.

They aren't united and organized? Newsflash: thousands of radical
muslims went through Bin Laden's camps, thousands more are dedicated
to destroying the West, and untold millions of Muslims are sympathetic
or outright supportive of these people.

One of the most important steps is realizing
that the threat is serious...because it is.

I never said it doesn't exist,it's just blown wildly out of
proportion.

When these fanatics plan and almost succeed in killing untold
numbers of Americans(look up the planned Millenium attacks and the
first World Trade Center bombing), we should not think the threat
is serious merely because they didn't succeed? We should think
that the threat is not signifigant because only about three
thousand people died on September 11?.

Make no mistake...they want to kill us. They are determined. They
will take advantage of any weakness they can find. Being concerned
about this is not "blowing things out of proportion".

Of course we have to defend ourselves, but all this fear and macho
parading that the U.S. seems to have is exaburating the situation I
think.

Maybe you should give me a specific example of "macho parading" that
the U.S. "seems to have".

caution and concern, which is totally acceptable and understandable.

I see flat out hysteria

For example,it seems to be one of the only major issue in this presedential campaign.

It is a major issue, and for good reason(as I have demonstrated in
past statements). It is not the only thing that is being talked
about.

Just look at the new-any news major outlet. Whenever something
violent happens, the first thing the say usually is that "it's
definately not terrorism related".

Given how often Islamic extremists cause violence, and how
unpredictably they can strike, it is not uncalled for to relay that
an incident is not terrorism related.

I was talking with my psychiatrist about his treatment of psychotics
one day. He told me that since 9/11,the paranoid delusion that the
government is going after someone has been largly replaced with
paranoid delusions about terrorist attacks in many cases he has
treated.

I, like many Americans, are not paranoid. But, I am concerned.
And, I refuse to ignore this very real threat.

Then you, as an American living in America, are orders of magnitude more paranoid than those Americans living in America concerned about Islamic terrorists. When was the last time an American civilian living in America was killed by the American military? Last incident I can recall would be the four killed by the National Guard at Kent State University over three decades ago. Got anything more recent than that you can offer us?

i goto Kent State if the guard ever comes back to murder more students, we'll fire first

Yo foo dis cat be straights up AKKRITE wif his gat biotch! Dis muvvafuckas be gotzin a nine milla just like homies in da noo yawk disrick do, ya foo honkey!

Just analyzing this tactically, how would you with your Crazy Nine Milla do anything against .223 rounds from trained, armored professionals? LOL , the concept of the left "fighting back" with anything but little protest signs is so funny I'll have to draw a cartoon about it. Maybe all the dreadlocked, hippie weirdos that protested in NYC can be out there with their "gats".

<edit> I hereby strip KOTT of the "idiot of the year" award pending further investigation by zappaisgod as to whom the real IOTY is. I'm wondering if Alex can be given this prize, as it's such a shoe-in .And to give Alex some credit, he isn't an idiot, hes quite intelligent, just mislead.

In general I like to keep the flow of information and ideas free in the political forum...but due to the nature of this forum there is bound to be some heated debate.
Here are 2 rules that I would like all of you to observe.

1) NO FLAMING ...if you can't state your case or refute someone elses case without calling them "stupid" or an "idiot"..etc...Then don't bother posting here. This forum is for intelligent debate, not to try to belittle someone that doesn't think like you. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED ... If you have been warned already, you will receive a temporary ban, if you continue to flame you will be banned permanently...choose your words wisely or suffer the consequences.

2) Although not always possible, when quoting a source please provide a link.

That's it..Basically I am looking to create a more tolerant atmosphere in here...it's not too much to ask. There are many different views and beliefs represented in this forum, more so than any other (with the possible exception of the S & P forum) and we need to be able to communicate our points of view clearly without resorting to petty name calling. We are better than that.

that clearly wasn't a flame. Examples;

2) Flame "You are an inbred, horse-fucking jackass"
I apologize if you were offended.

If, just for a theory, "the left" and "the right" had a fight, the rednecks on the right would win, most likely

Should we try to take away all AK-47's from everybody in the world? How would you go about such a massive feat.

Start with a halt of all arms sales to other countries, or people without US citizenship. Instead of spending thousands of dollars on each missile, start a massive buy-up of arms around the world.

It's true the pawns who actually carry out the plans designed by their masters don't give a damn. But those who send them out do. You'll note it wasn't Khalid Mohammed blowing himself up. You'll also note that Khalid Mohammed is now sitting in a jail cell. You surely don't think that hasn't escaped the attention of the other planners out there, do you? Or maybe you do. Just asking.

And the U.S. should be worried about that because...? Shit, people have been blowing each up over the same streches of land in Africa and Asia with actual military equipment.

You incorrectly claimed there had been "no terrorist attacks since 9/11". I merely pointed out there have been plenty -- just none in the country that has shown itself most likely to fight back and is also the most aware of the possibility and proactive in rooting out potential attackers (see the subway dudes as an example). Of course, that doesn't mean there is any direct connection. Might just be a coincidence.
