1) The folks who tell those uneducated malnourished arabs what to do are neither uneducated nor malnourished.

I think that's somewhat true, but the masses following these leaders certainly fit the "poor as dirt, couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn" criteria. These people usually carry out attacks with outdated AK-47 derivitives, crappy home made bombs, low level mortors, and poorly functioning RPG's. Comparing their arsenal with any kind of national military (most urban police have higher quality equipment for the most part) is laughable.
Have you read some of the Al-Queida manuals given to the grunts? Your average, relatively intelligent 16 year old playing combat simulators on his computer probably knows the same information contained therein. How many terrorists drive tanks, launch missiles, and fly jets (let alone carry assault rifles made within the last five years)?
And can you point out some of these high class leaders? Bin-Laden was one certainly, but his network is almost completely out of power.I've heard all kinds of speculation ranging from the Saudi royal family to rouge elements of countries like Syria and Lebanon, but this is speculation for the most part and people don't seem to have to proof to back it up. Maybe you could enlighten me? Who are some of these people?

If they are such a big threat, how come there hasn't been a single terrorist attack since 9/11? I don't care how tight the security is,people supposedly that dangerous that don't care whether they live or die should have been motivated enough to carry out something. There hasn't even been anything close.

And why all the hysteria now (I know, the Bush adminstration playing off fear). But seriously,a couple of terrorists got lucky one day in a single, ingenious (albeit evil) act. And no,flying a couple planes into a building is not that sophisticated. (especially when a couple planes didn't even hit their intended target) Surely, these people existed with the same goals beforehand did they not? How much were people talking about international terrorism is this country beforehand (don't answer that, you don't live here).

If anybody in this country is really afraid of terrorists (especially of the Arab variety),they need to take their medicine and/or educate themselves. Not watching eight hours of T.V. a day filled with sensationalist media coverage would certainly help too.

I'm not too worried about the military as far as physical acts of violence towards my person, but I'm certainly more concerned about its super inflated, cold war era budget than I am international terrorist.

That is the most idiotic reasoning I have ever seen.

Yes, there are legal things which result in the deaths of more than
3,000 people per year(such as fatty foods, automobiles, and alcohol),
but these occurrences do not include cold-blooded mass murder. These
incidents cannot be compared.

Islamic extremists want to kill as many Americans as is possible.
The ring leader of the first World Trade Center Bombing
(Youseff...spelling?) wanted to kill 250,000 people in his attack.
According to some documentation I was reading, Al Qaeda expressed
interest in buying uraniam. And, how many people died in the
Russian hostage situation this week? Over three hundred people
died when murderers took them hostage and wired the buildings
with explosives in order to kill those people. Do you honestly
still think that Islamic fundamentalists do not pose a serious
threat?

Would you please point out where, in any post, I said that terrorism does not pose a serious threat?

My point, which you so eloquently missed, is that the panic and rampant fear of terrorism that some citizens display (and which, I think, the government encourages) is more or less unfounded on a personal level. Individual citizens have a higher chance of being struck by lightening than they do of being killed in a terrorist attack.

Once you give over to fear, you have already let the terrorits win.

Hey, what about cigarettes... dude!

When you choose to put harmful substances into your body you
will have to deal with the consequences. When you do something
that intrinsically involves some risk(driving on the road), you
must realize the possibilities that something bad might happen.

When an Islamic wacko decides to MURDER you, that is completely
different. Your life is being taken away from you by a religious
nut who is intent upon killing as many people as he can. Yes,
innocuous things like car accidents and bad diets do kill
more people in America than terrorist attacks. But, the thought
of people being INTENTIONALLY murdered in cold blood and on a large
scale is something that fills me with much more concern and dread
than these other things.

If you want to marginalize, ignore, and sympathize with terrorists,
go ahead. If America is the victim of one more large scale attack, I
think we should round up known Muslim extremists(at least several
thousand of them) and torture and execute them live on TV.

You didn't say that terrorism isn't a threat, but you marginalized
it. I think it is stupid to marginalize thousands upon thousands
of Islamic extremists who want to see the West destroyed, are
willing to kill innocent civilians, strike targets consistently
all over the world, have extensive support and sympathy amongst the
Islamic population, and are willing to sacrifice themselves for
their cause.

My point, which you so eloquently missed, is that the panic and
rampant fear of terrorism that some citizens display (and which, I

Well funded and well trained people who are numerous, who have
vowed to destroy my country, who have a penchant for targeting
innocent civilians, and who are determined, are people to be
feared. Fear of terrorism is not unfounded. It is real and
it is a definite threat.

Just because it isn't technologically advanced doesn't mean it's a futile tactic. I seem to remember some cow shit, diesel fuel, and a brick of TNT levelling a building in Oklahoma City a few years back. they don't have to have detailed missle guidance system manuals when they can have someone fly a plane into a building.

So the fact that money gets taken from you for a Constitutionally allowable reason is more threatening than the fact that a plane could crash into your workplace tomorrow and kill you? you and doctorJ should create a group and sit around in the woods being scared of the military, could be alot of fun!

Gee, I dunno. Could it be that there have been no terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11 because the terrorists know that America will actually fight back? Naw... that couldn't be it. After all, the terrorists are too uneducated and undernourished to figure that out. Or maybe it's because the dissolution of "the wall" between intelligence agencies (due to the Patriot Act) made it possible for them to be nabbed before they could carry their shit out. Remember the article a few weeks ago about the two guys caught in New York who had planned to bomb the subways?

By the way, you will note that there have been plenty of terrorist attacks since 9/11 in countries incapable of or unwilling to fight back -- Madrid ring a bell for you? Philippines? Kidnapping of French journalists? Nightclub in Bali?

Should I keep going?

Yeah,no shit. But did you see a police state and a massive crackdown against red neck militia guys after Oklahoma City? Should we try to take away all AK-47's from everybody in the world? How would you go about such a massive feat. It's futile, like this War on Terrorism crap.

Quote:

And that has to do with the hysteria in the U.S. how? There are clashes between Hindus and Buddhists? Should I be afraid here because of something that's happening in southeast Asia? Should we go round up polytheists before they get the wrong idea?

Quote:
Terrorism isn't a sophisticated event involving the coordination of hundreds of top-quality attack planes, helicopters and ground forces. Geez man, are you that simple-minded?

And what terrorist attack involved terrorists coordinating hundreds of top-quality attack planes, helicopters, and a partridge in a pear tree?

It would help with some of the massive hysteria. I never said it would get rid of a terrorist threat.Although, less hysteria might help the situation a bit.

Yes,the one in billion threat of dying in a terrorist attack worries me less than my hard earned tax dollars being wasted by the most enormous military industrial complex in the world.

If you think terrorists are afraid to attack the U.S., you are living in a fantasy world and even Bush would tell you that. They kill themselves in their attacks, after all. What do they have to fear?
