i suggest....wait....i stress that you do more reinforcing on the plexi glass even though it is on the top, glue & gravity wont cut it.

Its funny you mention reinforcing the lid. Originally I used silicon to glue the plexiglass to the BOTTOM of the lid. I thought it looked great. After about five days the silicon let go of the plexiglass (through experiance I now silcon doesn't stick to acrylic) Anyway my girlfriend came home and said "why didn't you just glue the plexiglass to the top of the lid" I felt like such a dumbass. It seems to work fine every since

No.
I made a post earlier, something about "newbie wanting to case", anyway it will give you a good perspective of where I am at. I am a very eager learner and will appreciate any knowledge that is passed my way

The plexiglass is at least an inch larger all the way around than the opening I cut in the lid. I ran a large bead of silicon around the opening and pressed the plexiglass onto the top of the lid. It seems to work just fine now (although the terrarium is empty right now, waiting eagerly)

hey the humidity and the force of blowing air from the humidifier(sounds like you have one)and/or your light and/or the weight of the center of the plexiglass...can buckle and bend your plexiglass .... a good thing to do while the glue is drying is to put something heavy on top (a brick works great ... like the bible! lol ) ne-way good luck ... i hate cilicone myself ... i never had luck spelling or using the stuff! hahahhahahahhaha... but i can tell you 4 sure that plexiglass is gonna buckle

Does rubber cement handle the high humidity better?

use GUNK!
It seals anything..
Plus it comes in several different forms for different purposes... Marine Gunk, which I use to seal terrariums and such because it is water proof. get some Gunk...it's at Wal-mart with all the other glues and shit.
