Plexiglass

Im not sure everyone will agree with me, but from what's been happening to me is this: Anytime I use plexiglass to construct something, which was a couple time, the plexiglass warps because of the humidity. i created a tererium completely made of plexiglass. Well, after a week, the freaking thing didnt close right anymore. So I made a tererium out of a plastic cooler or what-have-you, and cut an opening in the top and then used apoxy (sp?) to secure plexiglass on to it. That eventually came off because it warped like a bow. So just a word of caution when designing anything with plexiglass.....uhm...be careful or something..... or just dont use it!

Thanks for the advice. I use thick clear plastic (2mil?) available at home depot.

I use saran wrap to expose my containers to light. Cut a square in the lid or something....

I have used plexiglass with no problems in 3 terrariums. Got it form home depot, maybe you should get a little better grade plexiglass, but seeing as your mad at the plexiglass go with the plastic

If you are trying to construct your own terranium and you are having troubles, why don't you use a fish aquarium? i'm using the PF Tek guide and i just bought a 10 gallon aquarium. i have a piece of plexiglass for the spray shield, and a piece of carboard wrapped in plastic as the lid. I need to make a clear lid, though, so they will have light shining down on them. they just started the other day

If you use plexiglass for the top of your terrarium, duct tape seems to hold a lot better than epoxy if it warps.

Or yah can set the plexi with caulk andthen drill holes around it in the corners an a few down the sides, depending how much yer covering an use small washers nuts an bolts to hold it down also it can be reinforced with a n extra strip across the middle from side to side and this strip can be caulked an bolted also just hadda do that my self works great, decided to use what i already had instead of going to thicker stuff but since bolting and adding the reinforcement strip its worked well.
