Aquarium
    #4270635 - 06/08/05 05:04 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I have a idea for a terrarium possibly with not to much care. MY idea is to use a aquarium with water in it enough to cover a submergable heater.then have 4 shot glases holding up a piece of plexi-glass (1 inch over the water of course) then just rest my jars theyr during the colonizing process so i can regulate the temps. But heres the trick. The water being heated in the bottom space we'll call the basement is also evaporated but not going anywhere because its stuck in the basement. During the birthing u would have the same plexiglass plate but with holes/valves allowing the moisture to raise into the upper dome where ur cakes are. Plugging and un plugging would give u complet control over the RH. Thus you would be able to control the Temperature inside the aquarium and also to some extent the level of moisture in the air! Check it out

Improvements? Problemes? let me know i have spore syringe :syringe: on the way so im eaither doing this or going invitro thanks in advance!  :smirk:

i think you'll have a hard time controlling RH through that valve. heat control will be hard as well. just test it before putting cakes in and see if it works, even if people here will tell you it won't. try it, take pics and post pics! good luck

so this is gonna be an incubator and a fruiting chamber?
like an all in one type setup?

you might have to turn the submersible heater off during the fruiting cycle...depends on how hot your temp of your growing room is.

I think it will take alot more than 4 shot glasses to hold the plexi glass up in place.

during the incubation cycle...your gonna have to keep this in a dark room.
or you will have fruits growing invetro inside the jars...due to the tank being clear glass.

you will have to change the water on a regular basis...during the fruiting cycle.
you don't want stagnant water in there for any length of time...just ask Iggy about this one.  :smirk:

you will have to fill it up with more water...as it evaporates.
but everyone runs into this problem.

---

I personally like to keep my incubators and fruiting chambers seperate.

good luck!~

it's not going to be so hard anyway. a blanket on top will provide darkness during incubation, a thermometer inside will tell you how to menage the heater, H2O2 in water will keep it contaminant free, adding water as it evaporates won't be much of a hassle, since you'll have to open it everyday for airchange.
just build an inclined roof, or evaporated water will rain on your cakes.

Thanks guys i had the whole blanket over the tank during colonization part allready down. As far as thermometer i was gonna just stick 2 of these fish tank ones on the tank one where the chamber is and one where the water is. and also where theyrs no water but still in the basement i could put holes cuz CO2 is heavyer and would go down thru the moisture holes and then out the side hole ill make [:)] With the slanted roof addition think it should run smooth?

even with holes, you still need to manually fan everyday (3/4 times a day) for airchange. they need a LOT of airchange, i've learned it at my expenses. you might install a computer fan, also, but if this is your first grow i would advice not to complicate things too much: if you're doing PF tek, cakes will be strong, and will forgive some non-optimal growth parameters: they can colonize and give some fruit at room temp, your setup will probably guarantee a more than decent crop!

you could use a bubbler system for air exchange...

then you wouldn't need to fan manually.

yup roadkill that's a great idea and might even be useful for ME.
it is ideal in markdahman's setup because he has water on bottom
(@mark: air in, air in!)
but: are those employable also out of water, that is, on a perlite bed?
and: is a small one sufficient for a medium sized PMP? is there any air bubble potency / growroom capacity ratio i should look after?

one aquarium air pump, some air hose and one air stone.

you could lead the hose and air stone down into your so called basement.

this will bring fresh air in...

and it will push CO2 out.

----

filter disc on air pump.

bubbler into a glass of water/h2o2 mix.

k EVERYONE  Ive improved this drasticly!!!

same setup and all but modified the plexiglasse the cakes sit on to help Co2 removale. Inclined roof so precipitation  dripps down onto my 45 degree piece going straight back into the water reservoir! Added a bubbler so increase fresh air and also for good air exchange that pushes all the co2 right out@

The green spraying by the cakes is co2 slicky being forced down and out by its weight and the amount of fresh air being put in by the bubbler! The Blue Spray is moisture and the light blue bubbles r just to show that the Co2 wont b staying in the tank very long seeing as it all goes down the plexiglasse rackand then pushed out by the air from the bubbler

i don't think you really need that exhaust tubing.
something like this will be more than sufficient:

You going to cut holes in the bottom through the glass?

:smirk: , That'd be awesome....

Why all this work when you could just have a PmP?

They're great as fish tanks :smirk:
