Why I'm not voting for Bush OR Kerry
    #3043888 - 08/24/04 01:20 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Why I'm not voting for Bush:
--Has used the war on terror as a means for stripping people of their liberties and advancing his neocon agenda.
--Has ignored the Constitution more than any president since Johnson, and probably since FDR.
--John Ashcroft, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, etc.
--Has yet to veto a single spending bill.
--Has consistently catered to corporate special interests at the expense of the environment.
--Has advocated ammending the Constitution to institutionalize discrimination.
--Has put American troops in harm's way under false pretenses.
--Has left us with two costly foreign occupations which have cost us billions of dollars and hundreds of lives.

Why I'm not voting for Kerry:
--Voted for the Patriot Act and Iraq War.
--Supports legalized discrimination via affirmative action.
--Supports socialist agendas such as universal health care.
--Can't tell where he stands on drug policy, as well as many other important issues.
--Would rather "roll back the Bush tax cuts"(read: increase taxes) than cut spending like Bush should've done.

unfortunately..any vote thats not for kerry is automatically a vote for bush...and this includes non-votes and votes for 3rd party candidates...but it doesnt really matter..since bush will win anyway...

theres an obvious fallacy in your logic too ..the fucking electoral college...

so what would happen if the actual outcome of the election is 0 votes for bush.. 0 votes for kerry.. and 1 vote for badnarik??...that single vote could not have come from more than one state..and no one state carries the required 270 electoral votes...as such the election would be determined by the house of representatives..according to amendment XII clause 3 of the US constitution ..

Quote:

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March (**) next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

(**) "fourth day of march" is now 20 january...
the new congress is sworn in on 3 january..and this too is highly relevant...

there is also a congressional election in november..and there are 3 possible outcomes ..1) the repoops win 2/3 of the states.. 2) the democrats win 2/3 of the states.. 3) neither party wins the required majority...

in the first case..bush wins by default...

in the second case..the democrats will delay the vote until after 3 january...the SCOTUS wont rule on an "immediate" vote..since the current congress doesnt have a repoop majority in 2/3 of the states...in this case..kerry wins...

in the third case..dick cheney could become POTUS if the democrats are stupid enough to try to gridlock it that long...but their not..so they will vote for bush...

so as it turns out..you were right in the sense that the single vote for badnarik isnt necessarily a vote for bush (although there are more possible outcomes that favour bush).. it could also be a vote for john kerry or dick cheney...but OTOH your wrong in the sense that it definitely wont be a vote for badnarik either...

please explain how abstaining from voting increases the number of votes for bush or decreases the number for kerry or any other candidate?

please explain how voting for a third part increases the number of votes for bush or decreases the number for kerry?

if kerry has 23,465 votes and bush has 22,454 votes, and i don't vote... kerry has 23,465 votes and bush has 22,454 votes.

not voting doesn't increase the votes for any candidate. it doesn't affect the race whatsoever. voting for a third party doesn't affect the tally of either of the two major contenders in either way.

come on now. this isn't a test to see how long you can endure in the face of logic. the statement was absurd and illogical. continuing to defend it is just idiotic.
