you can still use them that won't hurt them...you want the lid loose during sterilation so that the contents will get sterile, as long as the dry verm layer is not soaking wet your ok..

Loose lids are a sure way to get a too wet substrate.
Better make sure you have a thick verm seal.

I tighten my lids as tight as they will get.
Works for me and it'll work for you!

yeah your right captainmax, if your pc'ing u want the lids tight, but if your steaminh then you want them lose....

I never tighten the lids and they come out fine for me when I use a pc.

My friend also keeps lids loose, tightens loosely just until friction stops it. He covers with foil and off into the canner they go. They looked fine to me, just the slightest condensation on the inside of the jar but absolutely no water collecting on bottom.
