HEPA Filters and Air Flow
    #2977728 - 08/08/04 10:47 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hello everyone! Before I start with a few questions, AFOAF is making an assumption... "You can't have too much air flow." Is this correct? According to what I read, you should be fanning casings / cakes up to three times a day. So, wouldn't it make sense to have constant clean air blowing into the terrrarium?

So with that aside, it leaves AFOAF with this question...
Is there any specific way a HEPA filter should be used? He purchased a a few HEPA filters off of eBay. He is unaware what it was originally used for, but knows its about twice the size of a casette tape. What he intended on doing was putting the HEPA filter in front of a computer-case fan, and having it suck in air. This would be done on one side of the terrarium. Then, he would have another fan doing the same thing, except sucking the air OUT.

So this leaves him asking.. Would the HEPA filter be doing its job correctly? Or does the filter need to be used in a specific fashion? He's aware of all the nasty shit floating in the air, and wouldn't want to increase the risk of contamination.

Someone claimed to use ~90% rH... but now the post has seemed to disappear. Not to be rude, but that contradicts the FAQ, and doesn't seem right.

Huh?

Well I'm not sure what this person is getting at but maybe saying something about the humidity. Well anyway..that would work for airflow but with all that constantly unhumid air being blown in and the humid air being sucked out dont you think that would loser your humidity?

The way most people do it is hook up a cool mist humidifer to provide air exchange with humid air...

Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..

Hmm you might be right. Also, that mysterious post I was talking about was on another topic.. my mistake.

What if clean air was only sucked in at timed intervals?

That might work...you might still need to mist and such though..
