Building a glovebox, need a hepa filter
    #1856980 -

I am constructing a glovebox (I'm too far into it, don't tell me not to! hehe) and I just bought the fan.

This is a 7 inch by 7 inch fan, and I was wondering where I could find a hepa filter that I could mount over it.

Thanks a lot!

P.S, the glovebox so far is at

I went and got a hepa filter for a vaccum cleaner at wal-mart. I got a 2 pack for 44.95. You might be able to find them cheaper, but out of convienience, and not having to order anything. It's good down to .03 microns.

I have a brand new hepa filter I will trade yopu for spores if you are interested. The filter is a real good one

I am wondering if I can use a dustmask instead of a hepa filter...

Yes you can. I saw a tek for it somewhere, I think on mycotopia.net in the archives.

Awesome! No point in getting a Hepa Filter then. I'll just buy a 2 dollar dust mask

A HEPA would be better of course. Look for HEPA replacements at Wally World. I got a decent sized one for about $15 or so.

We don't have one of those around here :frown:

I'd get one on the internet through froogle, but they never write the size..

A dust mask will not work!

There's a reason HEPA filters are used in laminar flow hoods, and there's a reason they're so expensive. A true HEPA filter will clean the air to near sterility. This is the minimum required for sterile work. A dust mask will filter out dust, but not the tiny contamination vectors that haunt us all.

Additionally, the filter's back-pressure and the fan have to be matched. You can't just throw a random fan and filter together and expect good performance.

Take a look at:

http://www.fungifun.org/flowhood/

before you spend a lot of money on a flowhood/glovebox that won't work.

This isn't a laminar floor hood, so I do not need to perfectly match a filter with a fan. Anything that produces a constant, if even turbulant airflow is good enough as long as I let the glovebox run for a while before using it.

Anyway, I ordered this filter

I'll get back to you guys on how well it works and whatnot.

Alright, but you still need a true HEPA filter or the air going into your glovebox will be full of contaminants.
