How were you introduced to tripping? * 3
    #29701923 -

Was there a merry prankster in your circle of friends offering you an ancient secret?

Did you get there by your own fascination?

Were you offered shrooms at a festival and took them?

How did it go for you?

What do you consider ideal for newbies?

In high school english class we read One flew over the cuckoo's nest. I read the preface to the book and it described how Ken Kesey wrote the book under the influence of the psychs he took during the Menlo park studies (or w/e they were referred too). Seeing that someone could actually write a coherent book that my teacher apparently revered, really broke the myth of psychedelics being "bad" or life destroying. As I approached this age too I was simultaneously drawn to counterculture art (a bit of a repressed childhood, if the musicians did drugs, I wanted to listen) and for the next english assignment I watched and wrote an essay about Easy rider... I think just sometime before all this I decided I was going to try drugs lol. But all these things coalesced into trying cannabis first and then once I was able to, try mushrooms. I was finally able to try them on school trip to England... They sold them fresh in smart shops in the early 2000's. A friend and I took some before a long bus ride and giggled like maniacs, and that was that

Also I remember being 11 or so and finding my older sister's DARE workbook and being utterly fascinated by the different types of drugs. Not scared straight at all lol

A friend gave me 2g for my bday. I was so sceptical of them that they sat in the pocket of my jacket for a year. At one point my mental health was at rock bottom and I had nothing to lose, so I tried it. Used to be completely anti-drug, but now I'm open to mushrooms and lsd. Maybe one day would like to try mdma.

i first smoked weed on december 31 2003, and again a few times after that until around october 2004 when i started doing it semi-regularly, and then every night by 2005. back then, before my brain was so thoroughly marinated in resin, it was like an escape. i could close my eyes and transport myself to another world, any world i wanted. at the time real life was becoming unbearable and this ability to escape was magical.

i had only the vaguest idea about shrooms, and the shitty description i heard about them was just that they were like weed but you actually see shit like it's real life. of course i was curious about escaping further. sometime in early 2005 my cousin obtained us each an eighth of golden teachers and we ate them raw. everything was cool for the first couple hours. the visuals weren't what i had imagined they would be, but they were quite entertaining. we rolled a joint that started wiggling around like a worm and spent an hour intending to smoke it but getting too distracted to step outside and light it. i had this denim jean couch at the time (it was sooo comfy and cooling in summer, holy fuck) and i remember staring at the fabric watching what appeared to be west coast native artwork appear in it (i still occasionally get this type of visual)

everything was cool until we went outside and we saw... two people. and my crippling social anxiety kicked in and i got paranoid as hell that they knew we were doing something illegal and i spiralled into a horrible state until the sun finally came out at like 6 am. the profundity of the experience was way more than i had bargained for. i tried them twice after that, summer of 2005 and sometime early in 2006, always around strangers and due to my lack of insight and general shitty headspace that consumed me for that decade and beyond, didnt realize that i couldnt take them under the same conditions i would smoke weed and wrote them off.

flash forward to 2022 i was struggling with severe brain fog after catching covid. this fucked me up so bad, i could barely speak, and suddenly became borderline incompetent at my job which i was previously excellent at. after finding success with lions mane mushroom, someone pointed me towards microdosing, which i tried despite some reservations after my terrible past experiences with shrooms. microdosing provided some improvements to my state but i felt like maybe i wasn't getting enough out of these little capsules, and thought fuck it, i'll buy a quarter oz of dried to nibble on and see if anything good comes from it. one night i ate one solitary GT, stem and cap, didn't weigh it but knowing how much was in the bag it couldnt have weighed more than 1.5g. this was the trip i had been waiting for. sheer bliss and wonder, delightfully glowy visuals, and NOBODY AROUND TO FUCK WITH MY HEAD!

so yeah, 2 separate reasons for my curiosity... at one time to escape my body, and at another time to bring myself back down to it.

as for what's ideal for newbies? im not sure how the hell anyone can dictate this, other than do it for your own reasons on your own terms.

my dad told me about the mind expanding effects of LSD when i was 14, after he heard i had already tried weed, so at 16 i got the chance through friends in the free rave circuit and of course i took it.. ๐Ÿ˜

There wasn't really one moment that led me to psychedelia, it just happened slowly over time.

I very unusually smoked cannabis before I ever drank alcohol. I was doing it myself, but my two best friends at the time were present.

They decided to go schizo on me, they started acting really strange. They stopped talking to me, but the only thing they'd say was "You're not real" over and over again for more than an hour. They'd run off and disappear for ages, message me to try and say I was lost from them, trying to make me think I was hallucinating them. I violently sobbed on them for ages, and they started to laugh, they just kept laughing. And this was my first ever psychoactive experience, so it was damn terrifying.

I walked away towards the pier - they stopped playing around. Essentially they are massive fucking dickheads. We were still kids at the time too.

Anyways, despite this trauma, what I experienced that day founded a curiosity within me that to this day I haven't gotten rid of. I found out liberty caps grew around here a good while later, and eventually I stumbled across them (on accident as well lol) and there it began. I took them home, ate only 8-12 of them and the rest is history.

Morning Glory and Hawaiin Baby Woodrose seeds when I was around 17. I think it was my late 16's though. Then at around 18 I discovered Peyote ceremonies and I sought out homebrewed ayahuasca and extracted dmt using q21q21's limonene tek.

currently i have a bunch of fresh heavenly blue morning glories that i have frozen in a bag saved for revisiting lsa.

Tl;dr: Wanted to try pot, but only could come across mushrooms.

Hippie parents loved their 60s/70s rock, as did I, just wanted to emulate my musical heroes.
As a naive 12 year old wanting to try pot for the first time, I kept asking around but the only thing anyone could come up with was mushrooms. My cousin gave me an 1/8th of liberty caps he had picked -- this came with strict instructions to eat all of it. Brought them home, waited until my parents were asleep, and ate half the bag well after midnight on a weekday.

Stared at my fan/light for quite some time not knowing what was going on, but felt at peace with the experience. Watched Pink Floyd's 'Live at Pompeii' and was blown away. Never could sleep, so I went to school that morning still somewhat tripping. Brought the rest with me to give to friends, which 2 of them split right away... school is not the place to eat mushrooms

Had my first experience with pot about a year later, ate mushrooms a few more times, then the supply vanished into thin air. One kind soul on another forum mailed me LSD, 2cb, DOM/DOC (can't remember) a few times the following years. Bought a Peruvian Torch cactus that provided some interesting experiences.

Never really heard of any friends mentioning anything remotely close to psychedelics other than MDMA. Tried it, but was not a fan.

Skip through a haze of opiate, alcohol, and benzo addiction along with somewhat regular stimulant use, but by that point my soul had blackened and became severely depressed, bordering on suicidal.

Read about people "curing" addictions with psychedelics, so I started researching to grow my own... and here we are.

That's pretty cool tbh.

For me it was nicotine, cannabis, alcohol, amanita muscaria (very subtle effects though), psilocybin, LSD, LSA (though the LSA was hardly noticeable).

In my early twenties a friend came over with some mushrooms (cubes), so we split them between the three of us. It was a rather low dose, like 1.5g each, but we had the time of our life.

I soon became aware of the therapeutic and all-around amazing qualities of mushrooms and such and from then on my life is dedicated to psychedelics.

Mushrooms/psychedelics have always been the most interesting to me, i remember when learning about all the drugs in some DARE presentation i thought weed and mushrooms seemed like the safest.

started with weed and a bunch of my stoner friends had shrooms so i tried some and time has been an illusion ever since.

I was the Learyboy in several friend groups - the originator of tripping experimentation. From a very young age i raided the library reading everything I could about tripping, there was an inherent sense that that place was home for me.

Friends got take along for the ride, the ones open to it.

Ether was my gateway drug :sun:

Never talked friends into it but if they wanted to, hell yes join us, its on me.

...that it was on me gave me serious problems with mooching many years on.

I was on a do-gooder trip and some people leaned in on that without reciprocating.

My tripping days are over. Still, what a ride :triphome:

Many of my family members back home joined a mushroom church (SF Bay Area ๐Ÿ˜‚) and invited me to try them when I last went home last Christmas.

A life changing 1.5g later and here I am, growing my own:)
