We tried eugenics before.  Turns out, it didn't fuckin work and plain doesn't work for humans.  Germany ended up in the hands of a syphilitic meth addict with one testicle and a microcock. Hell, the father of eugenics was basically laughed out of the scientific community because he was a fucking moron whose specialty...WAS MATH.  Not biology.  Math.  Brilliant statistician, but a fucking dumb-as-a-sack-of-hammers motherfucker when it came to biology.

What happened in Germany is irrelevant. The Nazi attempt to create a 'master race' along racial lines were coming at it from the wrong direction.

Maybe his (the father of eugenics) stance was more one of sustainability of the species, rather than creating some 'super breed'.

It is unarguable that we have outgrown our planets natural tolerance to our species, and so, a means of 'whittling' our number down is required. Since the natural checks to our over population, disease and war, are no longer enough to control our numbers, it seems the only alternative is to use logic.

No more pandering to genetic fuck-ups and those that become addled, emotionally, environmentally, physically / mentally or by old age. We look after peoples health until they are no longer viable, at which time they are Euthanised.

There are those that would say that even retards, and other, general assorted genetic fuck-ups, that are incapable of looking after themselves, have a 'god-given' right to procreate, or some such utter fucking stupidity.

TPTB (The Powers That Be) have probably crunched the numbers and know that our best hope for continued survival, as a species, is a major reduction in our numbers. Lets face it. Non of us are going to be here in 100 years, so a massive population reset every x number of years to 'blow away the cobwebs' until such a time as we have mastered interstellar travel, enabling us to outlive our planet and star, is our next best bet of not disappearing up our own fundament before we have a chance to move on to the next.

To that end, and, as a small token, I am giving serious consideration to 'exiting this coil' when I reach my allotted 'three score and ten' and, as the UK government has recently taken the decision to not legalise Euthanasia, to take myself down to Parliament and bleed myself out, outside the House of Commons, as a protest against their utter fucking stupidity. :oldman:

In communities with limited resources basic eugenics has been a normal part of human existence since time immemorial. It's only in times of civilized excess that our "humanity" has demanded we don't follow these instincts of nature.

My larger point is that countries and people that adopt eugenic policies tend to either hire complete fucking morons to lead em, or end up w/ said leaders getting culled by the people their bullshit wronged.

Also, of course humans rejected this crap.  We (well, many of us, at least) developed a little thing called morality.  We also understood that even the most weak and sickly amongst us have something they can contribute to group survival.  Sure, Grong might be a drooling dickhead that can barely chew, but NOBODY can clean a bison faster.  Humans are an aggressively hyper-social species, eugenics flies in the face of that because it demands the extermination of arbitrarily defined members of the tribe.  That make tribe people feel bad.  Reduce morale.  Low morale mean no good at hunt buffalo.  Mean no have food when cold.  Mean starve and freeze.

Also, it doesn't matter what his goal was, the father of eugenics was demonstrably wrong.  If I say I can fly by flappin my arms real quick, it don't matter if I'm doin it to style myself superior to all the weakies or just to save on air fare, I will be wrong.

Okay, but people have fewer children pretty much across the board when their needs are met and they are occupied with things other than plot farming and other types of labor which require multiple hands to make survivability possible. The vast majority of population increases in the last 50 years come from the parts of the world where those conditions haven't been met yet. Most growth over the next 25 years will come from a small group of countries, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of South Asia. These are the places where child mortality is still high, many people still farm for a living, women have the least access to school and contraception, and having kids is your retirement plan because nothing else will be. Everywhere else, fertility is already at or below replacement.

The "logical" answer isn't whittling anyone down violently. It's speeding up what already happens on its own: educate your population including women, cut child mortality, make family planning available, and give people some security in old age. Every one of those steps lowers birth rates and makes people's lives better. Culling does neither.

It's also worth asking what outgrowing the planet's tolerance actually entails. The richest 10% of the world (of which many of us are part of) are responsible for roughly half of consumption emissions. The poorest half are responsible for around a tenth. So ironically, the fastest-growing populations have the smallest footprints. If the real problem is how much we use, “whittling” the fastest growing groups of people would barely move the needle.

Every time someone with the means to address it has decided the world has too many people, the "excess" almost always turns out to be poor, foreign, disabled, or the wrong ethnicity, never the person making the argument who is likely themselves consuming a more significant chunk of said resources. We already know how to bring population down without hurting anyone. Choosing an approach that requires someone in a suit deciding who gets removed isn't logic.

Hard to say that there is a broad consensus among the powers that be. Some may believe that, but others appear to push and promote the opposite. The public facing powers that be - the ones running key sectors of the economy, the ones embedded in the governments around the world, the ones with disproportional decision making power in matters of social direction, war, education, etc. - all seem to be obsessed with the idea that there is a population crisis (that people aren’t having enough babies), which is more or less the opposite of an explicit ideal to reduce the numbers.

There is a pretty simple reason for the public position of adopting a population crisis stance. To people in positions of economic power, population is labor on the other end of each generation. Every kid born today is a worker, taxpayer, renter and soldier in 20 years. As long as each generation is bigger than the last, labor stays cheap. When it comes in smaller, labor gets scarce, wages go up, and workers get picky. That's a crisis to someone who's business model relies on cheap labor - not that humanity is disappearing, but that the supply of cheap hands is.

The things that lower birth rates are exactly the things that make life better for most, so anyone who depends on a growing supply of workers is at odds with improving quality of life whether they'd say so or not. Which is why the push is never "let's make raising a kid affordable" and always "let's make it harder not to have one," while housing, childcare, healthcare and education get more expensive every year.

There's also what happens to a large population once new or novel technology has offset its labor. Every time a society offloads work away from it's civilian population - onto slaves, colonies, engines, synthetic fertilizer, now automation - and has nowhere to put the surplus of unemployed people, that surplus then inevitably belongs to whoever has the power to direct it, and historically it gets directed into militarization or hard labor, even into recent eras this appears to be true. A large population that doesn't need to work, living on a check or bread doll from the state, is available labor to do whatever labor nobody would normally do voluntarily. And whoever has the power to direct it is incentivized to do so, because that same pool of labor can likewise be hijacked to rebel against whoever has the incentive.

We also know what a rapid population decline looks like. The Black Death killed ~1/3rd of Europe, and the survivors ended up with more land, tools, infrastructure, housing than they had people. Labor got scarce, peasants could name their price or just walk off to another lord's land for a better deal, and the extra money let people specialize in things like livestock, beer, cheese, wine. Archaeologists can literally see the improvement in the bones of people buried after the plague compared to before it. England passed the Statute of Labourers in 1351, which fixed wages at pre-plague levels and made it an offense to refuse work or leave your employer to try and resist it, but there wasn't enough in place to actually enforce people from leaving. The Renaissance Period started across Europe shortly after the plague, largely as a result of people doing things and moving around on their own volition, which generally concentrated people to larger cities and allowed for more specialized directions of labor.

I'd argue that a sudden drop in population is about the worst thing that can happen to 'the powers that be'. What people in positions of power currently, who assume that they will control things in 20 years as well, have crunched is that every smaller generation hands more leverage to the people in it, which is why every billionaire and head of state is suddenly worried about birth rates.

Re: Fort Hood shooters execution will be live streamed. [Re: islandsss] * 1
    #29695173 -

I mean I think I get what Northerner is saying there, tribal or pastoral societies were largely insular, and could not support certain types of disabilities that hindered a nomadic lifestyle or lifestyles with limited resources. And this was the case for most of human history.

But I would point out that the same insularization is also why most tribes are gone today, or why surviving tribal societies struggle to integrate. Things like diabetes, disease resistance, obesity, ADHD, and other ailments which are really just genetic dispositions to modern lifestyles, sensory exposure, and diets. These things that were genetically favorable traits when living tribally, exist as genetic ailments now.

A trait is only a defect relative to the environment you happen to be living in. Sickle cell is a disease in Ohio and a malaria defense in West Africa. Storing fat efficiently kept your ancestors alive through a bad winter and now gives you diabetes at 45. Nature doesn't select for 'good genes' it selected for whatever got you through the next few generations, and a population that gets pruned down to only the traits that fit one environment is the first one to go when that environment changes. That's what happened to the tribes.

The other thing is that tribal "eugenics" wasn't a program, it's almost entirely dictated by the environment. The moment a society has the surplus to sit down and decide which traits to systematically breed out, it by definition also has the surplus to support many of those same traits. You can't really run an effective eugenics program from a famine. It's almost always a choice made by people in abundance about who they'd rather not have around.

And once it's a choice, somebody is making it, and whoever that is will select for what's convenient to them. Historically that's meant compliance, conformity, and whatever the people in charge happen to look like, while "undesirable" ends up covering the poor, the foreign, the disabled and the politically inconvenient. Those are the traits that get you a narrow, docile population that's easy to direct, which is also the kind of society that falls apart the first time it needs to adapt to anything.

Agree, wholeheartedly :happyheart:

On this note, I was talking to someone recently about how I grew up, like many, oblivious to war and what happened during them.

It wasn't until 8th grade when we had our senior project and with a primitive recorder, interviewed my previous, stiff lipped Pop Pop- and learned how he stormed the beaches, and was first on the scene that liberated Dachau- one of the most horrendous and other than the length of time it operated, was renown as the concentration camp where the human experiments happened.

- not only was he first on the scene- he took photographs and later documented what it was he saw.
I invite any Holocaust denier to look at the photos he took..

We filled up both sides of a cassette (which I will be forever looking to find)
..And I for the first time, found out that my Pop Pop drove a tank destroyer, what that even was, and how when their unit was struck, my grandfather who shot the rounds, prioritized his comrade that drove, to get out.
There was an explosion, but he got his maan through the chute, and, ultimately earned a Purple Heart.

People of my generation that had family that fought valiantly, I am sure will agree that any info was very hard to ascertain, as far a subjective accounts from family members.

And I think that had everything to do with the core military principals, including insulation for the commonfolk from the horrors of war.

It was the burden these men would live with, and a gesture of honor, bravery, and service that extended beyond wartime.
A stature of pride that IMHO, it is a relief WW2 vets for the most part, don't need to witness what the military has evolved into.

Fast forward to the vets returning from the Iraq war... PTSD, suicides, the few that did speak, shared awful, inexcusable orders they were given to carry out.

Otherwise, just like men from world war generations should have broke code- the vets alive, need to speak up.

It isn't due to honor or pride, these men and women sign NDAs and are not permitted to speak about the involved atrocities oversea..

At this time I am ashamed to say, enough information is out that Americans should be appalled.
This is where the gross amount of our tax dollars go, we need to be aware of what the end result is.

As this thread and the shootout makes clear.
There is no longer honor or any striving for it.

But I do wonder, if more vets spoke out and tore down that insulation we are blessed by ignorance to have, maybe this wouldn't be the situation.

There are headlines of soldiers standing down when given orders, at present.
I implore these men and women to speak out.
Stop making the military look like 'the greatest on earth that you can be the best you, and be a part of this.'..'
Let it be known our brutal campaigns, stripping of humanity, deplorable war crimes.

Let us hear it all, by not sharing war stories with civilians, this monster and downright evil intrusion will only grow in abomination. In that vacuum of ignorance,  it will exploit the environment and thrive..

There is no longer a shred of sanctity in wartime. The secret is out, might as well show people the barbaric truth.
So that while they live paycheck to paycheck, literally breaking their backs to feed their kids- they should know what their pay has contributed to create..

Hope my point is legible.

I feel like at least partly this is a reaction to that completely botched execution that was supposed to be stayed.
https://www.newsweek.com/christa-pike-update-everything-attorneys-said-since-botched-execution-12546419
They ended up giving her two doses of the killer cocktail and she survived. I don't think an execution could have been any more botched if they had tried. She's now conscious again.

So That started the conversation of whether our country should even try to execute people at all.
The government's reaction is of course to use the most reliable method of execution possible.
Because they're savages and wanna make the point that execution isn't going anywhere in fact it's going to be live broadcast.

It’s easy to look at these acts of "revenge dressed as justice" and feel helpless.  Rightly so, rightly so - for 'tis truly, fucked.

Endless cycles of retaliation is powerful, fueled by confusion, greed, and hatred. It’s the "backward" way of the old world—medieval, brutal, and ultimately empty.

What I term as an act born of the 'backwords-woke' of the human world.  (<-*~^~*.> its just a kinder, nicer way of saying someone's plagued by 10,000 delusions-illusions -- ignorance, etc)

But here is the truth that matters:
Vicious cycles can be broken by what?
A single, genuine act of kindness.

Honestly, how have we not learned from the sages by now?

I think we actually have. It's just...a sort of hysteresis is in play... the good-ness born of humanity is in effect now and still interbecoming, still on its way. 'Coming down the pipeline' or what-have-you.

Although the subject matter is one thing, the reality of it is undeniably unworthy of being experienced by anyone in my opinion.
As - no matter how dark the world feels, no matter how many people are clouded by delusion or anger, one act of true wholesomeness outweighs a thousand acts of cruelty.

We must keep ~ the Virtuous Cycle ~ turning.
Not because it’s easy - though it's less sleazy and less horrible - but rather, because it’s the only path that leads anywhere worth going. Let’s not be the ones who add to the noise of hatred. Let’s be the ones who prove that mercy is stronger than revenge.

The light doesn’t need to outshine the dark to exist. It just needs to be lit. As Human beings, we can look around and see the light, look up and see the light everywhere. And, we can also do this --  make our own light, too.

Let’s keep the torch that's worth lighting, lit.

A Virtuous Cycle, my friends.

Virtuous cycles.
