Stalled grain bag * 1
    #29695527 -

First Grow!
I a dub tub setup that uses water bath. I had a spawn bag (2.5lb) that came with the tub kit as well as an AIO bag (5lb) I purchased separately. Both bags had been in the tub set at ~75 for a few weeks. The grain bag had condensation at the top likely from being in the heated env.

On 9/25/26 I used an SAB to inoculate both the AIO and grain bag each will a full 10cc LC of diff species.

Today (10/12/26) the AIO bag is colonizing nicely while the grain bag looks stalled and has remained in present condition for a nearly a week. The grain at the bottom looks a bit dry so I flipped the bag thinking the heat would help the condensation that was on the top to rehydrate the grains and stim growth. The filter patch at the top of the bag still remains folded. They package it tight and tape the bags folded. All I did was untape and inoculate leaving the top of the bag with the patch in it's still-kinda-folded position.

Is it ok that I have flipped the bag?
Should I try to make it so that the filter patch can exchange gas (unfold and make some space to breathe)?
Be more patient?

I have the lid on the tub with the holes sealed to retrain heat like an incubation chamber since it's still colonizing. I bought my gear and supplied before learning of this forum. I was directed to HHG and read 1,2 and half of 3. I'm excited to get into this journey and to learn from this community and hopefully I can salvage my grain bag.

If you hang the bag somehow gravity will fill the bag with filtered air, when it's filled give the bag a break&shake and see if it comes back to life, they dont need to hang after the bag is filled :awedance:

Spawn bags need to breath.  Not be stuffed in a tub.  Furthermore, they produce plenty of heat, therefore they’ll colonize just fine in temps between 65-70F.

I’d take them out of the tub.  I’d also give those a shake.  Once you’ve evenly distributed the colonized grains through out the bag, place your nose up to the filter and squeeze the bag gently.  What’s it smell like?

Hopefully you didn’t encourage bacteria to grow and the myce just stalled due to high temps and lack of gas exchange and it recovers.

Thank you much and I will try this and report progress or failure when it is revealed.

I hung the bag and gave it a squeeze and it smells pleasant; more like grain than anything else but maybe some myco aroma.

She got the breaky-breaky shakey-shakey treatment and the top of the bag is extended and the filter patch has room to breathe and I've removed the cover from the mono.

I hear that normally we'd want colonization to be much farther along before break & shake, correct?

Gonna try to ignore it for a few days and then have a peek. Thanks for the really quick support for y'all!

About 20-30% colonization is where you want to be before a shake

I had a look at the GS bag last night and today and the myc appears to be recovering. After the break and shake I wasn't noticing much white which I believe is expected especially since it wasn't very far along to begin with. Now the grains show the start of colonization.
