Eatyualive's Lazy Mofo Bag Tek question
    #1377464 - 03/15/03 06:28 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Could this be used with spawn bags with a filter patch instead of ziplocs with holes poked in them? Eatyualive said the holes are very important, and I'm wondering if the filter patch could substitute.

the bags are equivalent to filter patch bags since you poke needle size holes in them to allow for air exchange. go for it.

I'm really not clear on how filter patches work. Do they let air out but not in? That wouldn't make sense because my buddy says when he squeezes his sealed bags the air doesn't go anywhere. Should the white covering of the patch be removed?

today i broke up my lazy mofo bag, which was about 90% colonized, and tossed another half cake in there and mixed it up a bit.. i figured this would strenghten up the mycelium.. was this a bad idea?

i read the tek, and seems like maybe instead of holes, have a small section cut out, maybe 1/4"X1/4" and then tape a piece of Filter disk over that. and then try not to touch the patch. Just an idea, Someone try it.

I'm still wondering about filter patches. Can anyone help me understand that?

basically you need to have air exchange inside the bag. Filter patches allow for air exchange but filter out contams. In the gnome down the streets set up he modified this tek a little bit by cutting holes in the ziplocks and covering it with teflon. As the teflon should filter out contams. The gnome will tell me how well it works compared to the needle version soon.

But if filter patches allow air exchange, why can't you squeeze the air out of a bag with a filter patch?

I don't think squeezing harder will make any difference. When the bags are PCed after being sealed they expand to fill the entire interior of the PC and stretch way out. The filter patch just doesn't seem to have any give. What's up with that?
