I find it bizarre that felons can't vote.  It makes sense though that firearms can't vote.

Most can.

I am pretty sure you are wrong on that and that it is more state by state with the last one to open it up being Florida that I remember.  Though the republicans played intimidation games there.

You are correct

You can think that but the tradition in this country, for all kinds of issues, has been that the states get to decide who makes up those collective bodies when the Constitution does not specify and intratextualism provides a vague answer at best.

The legal theories that have been used in the late 20th and 21st centuries to expand the scope of the 2A to prevent states and cities from enacting their own gun control laws did not exist for over 150 years.

But it feels so much longer the a few months ago. Enlil why let people the right to vote sense you don't believe democracy can fix anything. If corporations are treated as people why can't they vote.

Corporations vote through their owners. Otherwise, people could just make 1000 corporations and for 1000 times each.

I do hate democracy, but I also acknowledge that we have nothing better as a tool in our republic to gauge the will of the people.

Typo, supposed to be 150. Fixed it, ty. But, I would hope you could have picked up on that from context, if not from knowing the history of the legal debate concerning gun control at least since I'd previously made the same point with a similar comment that referenced the late 20th century.

To be fair, state laws related to firearms weren't even subject to the second amendment at all until it was finally incorporated under the 14th amendment.  That was decided in 2010.  You can't use any pre-incorporation state law as some sort of litmus test of the contours of the right to bear arms under the federal constitution given that the 2nd amendment didn't even apply to those.

Such laws were hardly limited to the 18th century or US territories. You can use those laws to infer the intent of the writers of the Constitution and how people of the time interpreted it.

Again, that's irrelevant.  At the time of it's ratification, no one intended any of the rights in the bill of rights to hinder a state's ability to infringe on those rights.  A state could outlaw speech critical of the government if it wanted to.  The first amendment didn't apply to the states.  Until 1940, states could ban christianity if they wanted to

You can't say "this law has been on the books since 1840 and hasn't been challenged" since in 1840 no one believed that the bill of rights had any effect whatsoever on the states, so why would they challenge any state law based on any of the first 10 amendments?

Look I'm a proponent of a living Constitution...so feel free to interpret it however you want, you just can't claim history is on your side or that the FF intended it to be interpreted that way.

But it would be a good idea to demonstrate why that change in interpretation is beneficial to the fabric of modern society.

Then you can't claim they didn't.  I believe they absolutely intended the right to bear arms to be an individual right.  They did not want the federal government to be able to stop the states from calling on it's armed citizens to form a militia if need be.
