The US owns Greenland as far as I'm concerned.
    #29679342 -

I don't know if I could have resisted doing this either based on global circumstances. Don't care about trump but I believe that if your sitting in the white house right now and your looking to not get carved up during the AI tech revolution. Your only choice is to gain territory.
So Greenland maintains its "sovereignty"/ but in the grand scheme of things its pretty much owned by the USA the same way the mob sells protection to a business. The fuel and resources is ours. Sure well compensate them and let them have " sovereignty" on paper but they cant really have practical sovereignty in terms of resources. Every major power wants big fuel and big rare earth metals. And if your nation isn't hungry for them, which Greenland isn't there too worried about environmentalism. Your gonna get steam rolled. Its just a fact.
Just like if your the alpha wolf you gotta establish your dominance. Or get pushed out of the gene pool. This just goes to prove that the masculine spirit that's been so heavily culled for so many years was done so for very bad reason.
Nobody else is nice. So why should we be nice. The. Only reason everyone complains is because they don't got the bigger economy to muscle around the rest of the world as much.
Everyone's bitter toward this big stack at the poker table. Don't matter if trump is gone. The next president is gonna probably be forced to do all the same shit.

As far as I've concerned "Greenland" is just a Danish fairy tale. I mean, has anyone ever met a "Greenlander"? Didn't think so.

Enough with the lies. Scrub it from the maps I say.

So... how about the truth now?

At present, the USA does not officially 'own' Greenland.

I'm going to say yes. The US is basically protection racketing their minerals. There's a Texas based oil company named Greenland oil that's been already just moving stuff over there without Greenland's permission. The treaty Greenland has with the US is not only priority mineral access but to exclude all adversaries from obtaining minerals from them like Russia and China. Then there building the golden dome and 2 military bases there.
Yea in this current global climate its almost as if the US owns Greenland. Not on paper and yea there gonna go on business as usual having there own government and laws and elections. But we got all their shit.
Its kinda like with Venezuela. Their oil belongs to US. And other adversaries don't get it. The USA just allows these nations to continue to be "sovereign" but they pay a tax to the USA to exist. Its like when the mob comes in to sell protection. The business is sovereign but behind the scenes is under the boot of the mob when it comes to where their resources go. Which is to the mob.

Pretty sure we just have complete military rights to Greenland and nothing else.

And how are they going to pay for this military protection? If it's anything like Ukraine, 50% mineral rights will be suggested.

greenland / denmark has not asked for any 'military protection' , trump just decided he wanted a larger military presence there (there is already a U.S base on there)

* as for whos paying for it, the same people that will/are paying for all trumps bright ideas - the american public

I was thinking more like he believes all the resources extracted by multinational conglomerates run and owned by the 0.01% are "our" resources as long as they are HQed in the US or traded on the NYSE.

So the current geopolitical environment demands an alpha wolf who threatens and coerces it's allies in order to take territory from them? All while the alpha wolf's enemies are doing the exact opposite and banding together to oppose the alpha wolf?

This is some genius level diplomacy that my druggie brain just can't comprehend, I guess.

You're forgetting the entire reason for Trump being interested in Greenland in the first place is for critical minerals essential to national security. As long as EU and NATO are tied to USA, USA will push it as a NATO security issue. Military buildup will lead to "Well now we have to sustain control to buffer Russia and China's arctic expansions". And Greenland's resources will be discussed again. Allowing USA to expand it's grip in Greenland, even if it costs NATO nothing now, will cost Greenland eventually.

Xi's meeting with Trump yielded no progress on trade issues in industries that are increasingly related to defense - like semiconductors, AI, rare earth minerals. Export restrictions are here to stay as long as there's adversarial energy between USA and China. USA, and Europe too, certainly haven't given up on swindling Greenland.

so to summarise the above, the U.S doesnt 'own' greenland but you are making a prediction that the U.S will try and make a mineral rights grab at some point.

* the fact that he will try to do a mineral grab at some point from an ally nation would come as no suprise , the whole world can see what america has become since he has been in power.

It’s not a trump thing, he’s just blatant about it. The magnificent 7 that keep this country from defaulting are in charge, and any leader that still wants the dollar to be the world reserve currency is going to do whatever these corporations want, which right now is to be fed tons of minerals and energy to pump out advanced ai products and weapons that will revive American hegemony.

Odd wording, other peoples possessions being essential to you.

That kind of language puts an implicit claim on them.

The US does not own it, tough titty.

I don’t agree with it, but that’s how colonization has been rationalized before and how it’s being done now. Resources are the reason for most conflict historically. They dress it up to soften the truth that we’re displacing generations of a nation’s wealth for cancerous growth and selfish ambitions

the problem being is that its a 'world reserve currency ' , if you start robbing from your allies sooner or later they will start looking elsewhere for a world currency reserve (as difficult as it may be it can be done)

imo the unentanglement of the rest of the world from both the U.S dollar and america as a whole (amercia is no longer a reliable ally) has already begun
.
trump has not and is not strengthening america he has damaged it on the world stage to a point it will take generations to repair (if ever)
