Reliable dehydrators

Hello all I need some help finding a not so expensive but reliable dehydrator wondering what you all are using and recommend, I bought one specifically for mushrooms off of amazon and it did great the first 3 uses and then the heating element stopped working, the seller nicely replaced the base and it lasted another 3 uses and already stopped working also.

I went with a Presto 06301 dehydrator, mostly because I trust the brand Presto. I have been very happy with it. It is very reliable and it was pretty affordable too.

I would imagine most name brand dehydrators would do the trick. There really is not much to them.


Edit:
I went on Amazon to see the current price. $175!! That can't be right. That is way too high. As I recall I paid $35-40, definitely under $50. So forget that. I bet you can find a quality dehydrator for $50-60 maybe a little more.

Gotcha thanks, yea I like the brand also, I went with something slightly larger off of tractor supply with a 2 year replacement coverage

Nesco and excalibur are classic brands that people have been using for decades. They're very affordable second hand.

Excalibur Dehydrators! They are powerful, horizontal air flow (heating evenly), and for the most part unchanged in decades.

I JUST saw that the website doesn't have the oldschool one anymore, don't know about it. But grab one of these and you will be golden.

Excalibur 9-Tray Food Dehydrator 3900B, or something along those lines. 9 trays, grab a used one, made in USA so it should be easy to get replacement parts.

Cheap 5 tray Hamilton Beach on sale for $50. Worked for 7 years so far but it’s not in constant use.

Yea my main issue is I was trying to find one that can run continuously several days a week at a time, as soon as one harvest is dry another’s going in.

I find with dehydrators that they are kinda disposable items. It's crazy but even good ones die if you run them 24/7 for 6 months. I liked a round dehydrator so I could modify a big bucket to put overtop instead of tiny trays. Dry a lb at a time, just remember to mix the shrooms so they dry evenly.

Excalibur is the way to go for reliability, I've personally had one for 5+ years and it still works perfectly. Also have abused the shit out of one at a restaurant for several years and she's still ticking fine.

Pasty, that bucket dehy hack is fucking sick 🀘🀘

Now that’s a good idea, yea luckily the one I got was only 45$ and he already sent me a 2nd base for free which died yesterday heating element burned out, he was gonna send me a 3rd base free but also wanted the 2nd to send back to factory to trouble shoot but it’s been tainted with paraphernalia so I want comfortable with that.

That almost looks like mine, but I think they're only sold in Europe. Swiss-made good stuff- second hand ones (many years old) sell for 50+% of new. They seem to be industrial level quality.

I have a Excalibur 9 tray dehydrator and a cheap round rotating dehydrator. The Excalibur outperforms the cheapo greatly, even when it's completely full, but if it justifies the price is a another question.

The mechanical thermostat on the Excalibur malfunctioned after 3 years of intermittent use and ruined the whole batch of mushrooms. Even tough it feels like it could have burned down my house I'm happy with it. I changed out the mechanical thermostat with a Inkbird ITC-1000 and it feels like that is a good upgrade.

I paid $80 usd for my Nesco Snack Master over 8 years ago and it is still running, but I sometimes disable the heating element for gummies.

My Nesco Garden Master cost me $108 usd in 2020 and saw lots of use and abuse in the time since. I replaced the thermal diode once because I ran it for a few seconds with the fan jammed and the fan bearing finally died a month ago so she has been laid to rest. The replacement one cost me $140 direct from Nesco's website, but at least I get to use all of the trays from the original so I have 15 trays out of a possible 30 that it is supposed to be capable of running.

I spotted another Snack master and an 8qt Duo Instant Pot for $10 and $20 at a Good Will the other day and was sorely tempted. It would have been pretty hypocritical of me, though. We are trying to downsize for retirement and I am the one constantly asking the wife if we really need that new doodad.

I have four NESCO 8-Tray Stainless Steel Food Dehydrator 650W, and have been running them 24/7 for the last 2 weeks.  Seem pretty good, but only time will tell.

I initially bought two from Midwest, and one was DOA (blower didn't work).  Seemed kinda doo-doo so I got the NESCOs.

Finding that quiet mental space during down time is essential, whether you’re working on home cultivation projects or just letting your mind wander. It's all about shifting gears after focusing hard on meticulous hobbies. Whenever I need a simple background distraction to just relax without putting too much thought into it, I usually head over to dragon money casino for a bit. Nice, smooth way to clear the palate before diving back into the next project. Take it easy!
