40$ Walmart one setting dehydrator, 1/4# dry at a time, in under 24 hrs, everytime, keep it clean and it'll last longer than you do in the hobby.

i think snackmasters are similiar price, adjustable which is great for other food related purposes. you dont even have to buy extra trays for whatever dehyrator you do have, ive packed them until theyre overflowing by 2-3 inches between trays. just shuffle em around once in a while. ive dried a half lb a day like that, with it set on high. but if you are drying more than that, a space heater blowing at a window screen propped off the ground can fit 2+ lbs on it and be done in 48 hours.

I should of said, without over crowding the oster it does 1/4# at a time straight out of the box , add more trays you can do more, and no shuffeling around. By your own math the snack master is still a better option than the window screen, assuming the snack master cost less than, a fan, a heater, a window screen , and some sort of frame. This is also not putting a price on the option to return the snwckmaster should it fail. Or the a price on the time you save by just buying a dehydrator . I'm not harping on peeps for making Therr own bulk dehydrators, I'm all sorts of down for breaking the molds, but mathematicaly for 99% of growers a homemade bulk dehydrator like the above is an unwise project.

I was thinking about building something like this, only without the heater in order to get the drying started and then finishing the job off with calcium chloride desiccant and a large sealed PE or PP container with a spigot on the bottom to drain the excess ooze from the hydrated dissolved calcium chloride.

That sounds like A LOT of nonsense work . If your going to.build a bulk dehydrator why would you not make it functional enough to do the job by itself.

I'll say it again, 40$ Walmart one setting dehydrator, 1/4# dry at a time, in under 24 hrs, everytime, keep it clean and it'll last longer than you do in the hobby.

I am just picky when it comes to how dry I want my weed (not absolutely, completely, but pretty fucking close) and mushrooms(completely, absolutely), although I have never used heat out of fear of degrading the actives (irrational for the amount of degradation, IK), every time that I have just dried using a fan it has gotten them dry, but they were still slightly pliable and wouldn't snap.  This would also happen after I dried them out and put them in bags without desiccant for storage.  In FL everything stays wet during the summer months, even towels that you hang up in the bathroom feel wet before they are used.

20 dollar mini space heater from walmart that has a fan setting and a window screen popped out of your window already on a frame and you're set.

i wouldn't even call it a "project", you set the screen on two chairs, throw a a bucket full of fruits on it, and point the heater in its general direction. wallah dehydrator. dont wanna use a window screen? open up a cardboard box on both ends and force your heated air through there, it's even more effecient. I've dried 20+ lbs of wet fruits like this easy peasy, its definitely a viable option if you dont have, or dont want a dehydrator.

That sounds awesome lol I think I'm just going to make the one I showed or something similar the main reason I want to use heat also is because I live in south Texas and the humidity is just silly high all the time it seems like
