Cryovial 7 Shot Mini-Holder for PC'ing * 1

I've been trying to figure out a way to make a cryovial holder for putting in the PC to sterilize them, I don't like trying to keep them upright with paper towels or tin foil etc. I also needed something that I could use while in my SAB, and this works for both tasks. I had a bunch of the older white plastic regular sized lids, I figured I could make something out of those that I could place in a 1/2 widemouth to hold several upright. Unfortunately, the don't slide all the way down into a 1/2 pint widemouth jar. I used a wire clipper that I heated up to clip a piece out of the side. The first one I just did two, the second (better) one I put 4 upside down "V" shaped cuts. With these cuts in the side you can push the regular white lid down into the 1/2 pint widemouth jar. To make the "revolver" style holes, the first one I used a 9mm socket, held in a wrench and heated with my blowtorch, but in the second I used an 8mm and the holes it melted were perfect size for holding these cryovials upright. You can only hold 7, which might be too few for some, but for me this is about perfect. When doing no-pours in my 1/2 pints, this just takes up on space, the white lids are PC safe, and the lid keeps them clean till I move it to my SAB to use, then it also works as a place holder as I'm messing with transfers. the 8oz jars fit two levels, put folded paper towels between them and top/bottom. no need for holes

you can screw the lid on 1./4" turn loose and they will sterilize just fine. put them vertically like you would jars in a pc.

Yeah, this it makes it a bit easier for me to work with them in a SAB, and I don't necessarily need to do more than a few at a time. I crack the lids, but sometimes I over crack them a little, and I've had them leak when trying to mess with them. Doing no-pours with the heavy grey lids, trying to take a mini transfer and also hold a tiny vial etc, it can get aggravating. With this I have a vertical holder, can hold a smaller number, keep them vertical and gives me a clean space that takes up little room. If I had a bigger area, a flowhood or was doing more transfers or cryovials I would just stuff the jar full and maybe use one of the 81 or 100 count boxes as the holder while working, but my setup is a little smaller.

my sab is set and forget so i just leave the jar closed in there and remove them as needed. you can take a dehydrator tray it holds them upright perfectly. i use it as a  lazy susan in my sab.

That's awesome. I have to put my SAB away when not in use, but that is smart with the dehydrator tray. I also still use my old 1/2 pints for my plates, so there is minimal room to mess with things in mine. I can put a row of 8 out the PC with their tinfoil on and another 8 on top of those, and then have a little room for my cryovial jar, on the other side I can stash the plate I'm transferring from and the center is the work area. I like how you used that dehydrator tray though, very MacGyver. :thumbup:

The container the 81 or 100 piece sets come in is autoclavable

Yep that's what I do. Get the 100 slot case that's polypropylene and autoclave the whole case
