So these vials are just mycelium in sterile water? How glare you guys putting these to agar? With just the liquid or getting the mycelium out and playing that?

Yes its pieces of an agar plate i took with a cork borer in sterilized distilled water.

I plan on sterilizing some tweezers to take those pieces in the future and put them on a plate to revive them

From your experience could pans colonize slower on rye grains? Have you noticed different colonization speed for different grains? Which one you think is the best

Im looking at fruiting chambers for pans and your simple one in this thread seems interesting. Just the passive air exchange from the lid cracked open is enough fae? I thought they would need more than that most people in other designs add pumps or fans, airstones etc.

Would there be any benefits to adding a reptile fogger to your design? I have one from a long time ago as well as an inkbird humidity sensor to turn things on and off. Im not sure what settings would be optimal tho if I was to use it.

What do you think?

Foggers are more gentle for casing watering than a spray bottle.  Set it up so the mist falls on the casing.

Throwing this in here as it got buried in the quick questions thread


Reading up on pans (Tree Frog, Baba, and others), and having just gotten my first pan cyan print, will be pouring some 0.5% plates in the morning. Question is- is it worth making a sleeve of water agar as well, maybe at least for germinating?

Second question- is there an advantage to lower nute or water agar for germination in general?

I've just messed with cubes up to now, and germinate either on BRF pucks or regular 2% plates with no particular issues.

From my limited experience and reading some of Fahtsters writings, water agar is always useful for Panaeolus. Pans have a tendency towards bacterial infections which can carry through to spore so running at least one transfer across water agar can be beneficial. I think it was Fahtster who said they also cabin sequester at least once before going to grain to help keep cultures clean.

I like water agar for cloning and it can't hurt for germination.

So yeah it's worth it.  I don't currently have any made but if I was just starting out and wanting to experiment with cloning I certainly would suggest it.
