Don't use aoc is a all knowing source of anything. She doesn't even understand how power grids work. We don't raise wages because it raises the cost of everything else including rent. Germany doesn't have universal healthcare, gkv only cover 89% of sickness funds. Health care isn't a right and it never will be.

I believe the phrase the Berniecrats use, regarding healthcare goes like this: "In the wealthiest country the world has ever known, healthcare ought to be guaranteed", just like it is in every other "developed"/industrialized nation in the world (including Germany).

In that clip, AOC said it as well as it can be said, "It is absuuurd to suggest that the US might soon become communist"

It is absolutely absurd.

As for your comment about the minimum wage, the real-world data doesn't support your claims, but I'm not going to pull up any research on the matter, because I don't believe you give a shit about facts or reality, and this topic has already been discussed ad-nausium, around here, in the past.

It is not worse.

I used to live in a part of Washington state, where we had a publicly owned electric utility. We had the cheapest electricity in the country.

Finer details.

Did you read that?

Quote:
Health insurance is mandatory in Germany, and the health care system offers near-universal coverage, providing access to an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient services. About 99.9 percent of residents are covered by statutory insurance via nongovernmental providers known as sickness funds, which are financed through compulsory wage contributions that are shared equally by employer and employee.

That's a form of universal healthcare.. which every developed nation other than the US has.

Not all forms of universal healthcare are exactly the same, but the principle and general concept of healthcare being a basic part of society carries.

in all the EU countrys with a national healthcare system such as the UK where i live you are still allowed to buy private healthcare if you want (it doesnt stop you using the national heathcare system , it just means you have access to another forum of heathcare if you want it).

thats all the above graph shows (that 27.9% of the population have also decided to get private health insurance , they all still have access to the national system)

people often use private health insurance to speed up access for non 'critical' things they want done faster.

Forcing your healthcare system break down because inflation and economic slow down is a problem with any "universe health care system " where the baseline is mandated by a government. Pugster how is that health care treating you,  do you feel like your system gets you acceptable care for most things, especially with labor in charged there now.

The reason it's a worst system is greed. The best progress in technology and manufacturing outside of war is greed.

i am 57 yrs old and have multiple lifetime conditions , honestly i can say ive never had any problems getting treatment in my lifetime - this is not to say there are no problems with a national system , as there are with any system whther national or private.

in the last 12 months ive >
seen a doctor (GP) around 4 times
seen a nurse around 4 times
seen 2 different consultants for 2 different things at the hospital
i have another hospital procedure booked for 2 weeks time
have taken multiple medications from an early age and continue to do so

.... cost to me for the above.... zero

i really dont see how any end user who doesnt have access to a national system has any basis for an argument , its like someone saying heres a lifetime supply of free healthcare and you saying 'fuck you i dont want it'  , which is why i asked the above question.

** you are saying its a worse system because of greed? lmfao look at what is going on in the U.S atm.

You're right, it is greed. Workers understand that their labor and IP is getting ripped off, so they greedily want a bigger share of the profit. Humans genuinely want to tinker, learn, and create stuff. Having basic stability for the workforce means more humans generating economic growth.

Anyone could do what Zuck did, what Elon did, what Bezos did. They were just in the right place at the right time, with conditions that allowed someone to execute an idea. The corporations and their overpaid executives aren't gifted, they're privileged.

They want to preserve that privilege generationally; that's what corporations spend most of their money on. Lobbying governments, consolidating competition, building systems to kick out the ladder for the working class.

So that article says pretty clearly there are funding issues because of effective cuts and bureaucracy.

Quote:
According to the Roland Berger Krankenhausstudie 2025, three out of four hospitals ended 2024 in deficit, with nearly 89% of public facilities facing serious financial distress [2]. Staff shortages, inflation, and outdated infrastructure are pushing the system toward a structural collapse. Yet, the political response has been inconsistent - and, at times, self-defeating.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Health limited hospitals’ ability to negotiate tariff adjustments in line with real inflation, capping reimbursement growth at 2.98%. For Gerald Gaß, president of the Deutsche Krankenhausgesellschaft, this is nothing less than Wortbruch - a breach of word [3]. The government, he argued, is undermining its own promise to link funding to the actual cost of care. The result: more closures, fewer beds, and growing disillusionment among healthcare workers.

I work inside this system. As an Italian orthopaedic surgeon in Germany, I see both the strengths and the paradoxes of this model every day. German hospitals remain highly structured and well-equipped, but they are also exhausted by bureaucracy, underfunded in core services, and increasingly disconnected from their original mission. The political debate focuses on numbers, not on people. Between spreadsheets and slogans, the link between diagnosis and therapy - both literal and metaphorical - has been lost.

The paradox is that everyone agrees reform is needed, yet every step forward seems to tighten the knot. The government has announced a €130 billion investment plan for digitalisation, infrastructure, and community care over the next five years [4]. On paper, it looks visionary. In practice, the first measure attached to it was a spending brake. Transformation requires trust and continuity - two things German healthcare no longer has.

Reforming universal healthcare is important, and as populations grow and economic factors change, so too does the policy about how universal healthcare should operate, which is different for each country that implements it.

But that universal healthcare is effective, functional and necessary isnt in question.

In Universal Healthcare systems, you have to wait long periods of time to get adequate healthcare.

In the United States, you have to wait long periods of time to get adequate healthcare and go into debt.

Why though? Here, we paid for it through our taxes. To live and be healthy is fundamental for contributing to society.

Would you say someone has a right to a gun?

What strikes you about a green new deal?

Spain's done some good work with reducing power prices through renewables.

Sully gun ownership isn't a right in most places we think as modern states like the UK. The reason I hate the new green deal is it doesn't address building a new electric grid needed for our ever increasing electricity demands. It doesn't use the only true solution renewable which is algae. I view it the same as law makers passing limits of pseudoephedrine to prevent meth production and use when in reality reality chemicals can make meth without it,so disinformation form terrible law.
As to why paying taxes gives you a legal right to Healthcare is silly in my eyes. Our government can't even fix important infrastructure to have a good functioning society, while overspending such taxes. You don't believe having functioning roads, electricity, water is a right because many do have it.

A forced right that makes doctors and nurses work for little to no pay. Universal healthcare would force actions to certain people against their freedom to refuse labor or actions.

Doctor and nurse wages aren't forced down by universal healthcare. Neither does it force labor.

I asked if you think gun ownership is a right in the US.

And whether something is called a right or not is irrelevant to the fact that universal healthcare works without putting people in lofe destroying debt, while allowing price gouging by insurers as well as plenty of denials, copays etc.

In new York Mamdani filled more potholes than ever in the last year, and hes a democratic socialist.

Algae as a renewable is interesting, but I dont know about its commercial scale yet.

A green new deal would surely address energy grid infrastructure and investment. Its a requirement so I dont know what you mean it doesnt address the grid.

Doesn't it make sense to vote for a government that can use your tax money to fix important infrastructure?

Its not that it cant be done, but that it isnt prioritised and actioned.

Green new deal only want 580 billion to address the"smart grid ". Where it needs minimal 1.5 trillion to fix it.

Fixing pot holes sounds like campaign slogan to focus on while probably hiding how other failing. Is his child care and other policy's panning out.
