Fahtlock Grow Log (FahtLog?) * 4

I tried out fahtlocks for the first time during my last grow, and they really might replace shoeboxes as my go-to method. They're just so easy.

OG Thread: Using Ziplocs as Fruiting Chambers.

I wasn't even planning to do this. I was gonna spawn to a shoebox like normal. But when I saw those ziplocks sitting on the table, and realized I wouldn't even have to go up the stairs... everything was right here....

The laziness speaks to me.

Anyway I've done them a wee bit different so I took some pictures.


A few months ago these jars were stragglers about a week behind my other tubs. Life happened and they've been sitting here since. Two KSSS and a Tidal Wave.


Supplies. Almost nothing. Faht's post has a cool tip about making the bottom flat with a bag sealer, but the amazon knockoff bags already have a little slit that lets them sit flat well enough. This coir is also two months old. Still plenty hydrated and didn't smell funny so I'm sendin it.


Grain in the bag, and mixed it up. I use the bag like a glove to get the bits in the jar.


Coir to taste. Close it up, flip it over so grain doesn't get stuck in the corners, mixed until even.


Now here's where you work a lil โœจbooty magicโœจ. Crack the lips a lil so the air can get out. Fold it over. And sit on that mf. Seriously.

People keep asking how much you can compress your coir mixture... at least 200lbs. Before and after.


Coir layer on top, just enough to cover. Then get a lil cheeky with it. Before and after again.


Open it all the way up, get it real full of air, seal it up as full as possible.


Get a poker (needle etc) and poke some tiny holes on both sides. I poked less than the original but the holes are a bit bigger. Original diagram by mycgemini


Slap a nametag on there and let er rip.

I think this is a great way to grow out some isolates without taking up a ton of space, I will have to try this soon! I found my local grocery store has a ziploc knock off brand with stand n fill type gallon bags also...

The fahtlock is easily the biggest development in lazy fruiting we have seen in years. I may try a few myself someday.

I'm a big fan, and you can mix it up how you like. Sometimes I do sort of mini tubs in Tupperware in the bag, or just fruit a couple of cakes on their own (Faht shows that in the original post- just some wet CV on the ends, nothing else). Got a couple of pairs of PF cakes now that will be hittin the bag in a week or so :boxing:. I might do one each double-ended cased like Faht and one each in the jar a-la Bod.

Zip bag on jars is good but if youโ€™re going that route I liked bottle grows in pp5 with a two litre on top




But the Faht bags seem so easy as itโ€™s just a ziploc as a Fruting chamber. For people with limited spawn production this seems like it would probably afford a lot of BE in a small area.

After re-reading the original tek, I've gone back and folded over one of the two KSSS until at least full colonization. This seems obviously superior for microclimate until fruits start to require more room. Leaving the others so there's something to compare to.

Cubes are so damn agreeable its kind of fascinating



I was spawning inside freeze bags back in 2016 but didnt know that I didnt have to cut off the rest of the bags back then :bongload:

Don't feel dumb, I used to spend hours cramming polyfil in big holes until years later I realized I can just make the holes smaller.

I do like the look of those. Bottlecaps opening for adjusting FAE is cool.

The main downside to fahtlocks is stacking. I usually have shoeboxes 3 high on these shelves, which is 3x to 6x more space efficient depending on whether you're bagging pints or qts.

Another good reason for folding while colonizing, I guess. The whole shelf could just be stacked with em.

TW is doing well, one KSSS is doing eh, and one was hurting and had to... go live on a farm.


It was getting a bit close for comfort, so I snipped the bags. If this TW pinset comes through should be half decent. RIP to the other guy.

All of these were leftover jars that consolidated for weeks longer than they should have, and none were strong plates, so the weak growth isn't surprising, but I must concede that nearly 200lbs of compaction might have been a bit much.

I don't have a mister presently, and don't feel like getting another one because I break them so fast, so I just whipped up a shitty water tub with whatever was in the room.



They weren't kidding with the nickname, if this squat gets any lower his balls will touch the porto water.
