Syrian Rue extraction gone bad

I followed this guide: http://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/Harmalas_Extraction_and_Separation_Guide
Step 10 did not go as expected. Adding sodium carbonate I noticed only tiny (chemical) reaction, but something like the changing of colour of the liquid from brown to yellow what should mean that the alkaloids are precipitating out did not happen. (See another guide for the colour change: https://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/The_Tao_of_Rue_Extraction step 5)
My acidic Syrian Rue solution did not change colour. So just to make sure I added more and more sodium carbonate but no colour change.
The initial pH of the acidified solution was 4.5, and the resulting pH after adding the sodium was 10.
So, what went wrong? Could it be the seeds themselves? The seeds not having the alkaloids? Or my preparation of the acidic liquid, I cooked the seeds 4 times with each time a "dash" of white vinegar? Anyone an idea or advice? thanks in advance.

Sounds like bunk seeds. I've had that happen a couple of times. Surprisingly the cheapest seeds I could find have both been the worst and the best. Getting the right source has not always been easy.

I don't live in the EU and and we can't discuss sources here.

I've found that seeds that come loose wholesale are typically better than seeds which are factory packaged. If that helps at all.

How much Sodium Carbonate did you add and how did you add it? I take 30 grams of Sodium Carbonate, dissolve it into 100mls of hot water, and then slowly pour and stir it into the Rue brew. Doing so will change the color to a lighter color and should precipitate out the extract. If the extract hasn't precipitated out, chances are you haven't used enough Sodium Carbonate. That's been the case for me anyways. Also, depending on how much acidity there is to counteract, you might need a bit more Sodium Carbonate anyways to counteract the acidity and raise the pH. And, if you just added to straight Sodium Carbonate to the Rue brew that may not work as well and so you may need to stir a good bit to get it all dissolved.

I ended up pouring half the box of sodium carbonate in the brew. And stirred pretty well. Well, I will soon give it a second round. Thanks for the support

Yeah, like they would sell it in Arab countries on the market. But I guess Syrian Rue is not that common for my local grocery to have these on sale.

In my country smaller bags of wholesale seeds can be bought on eBay, maybe you see that too.

Yeah you don't wanna add the Sodium Carbonate directly to the brew, you want to dissolve it in some hot water first and then slowly pour and stir it into the brew.

I've never had an issue adding it directly to warm solution. A heaped teaspoon swirled and stirred in doesn't even reach the bottom, turns it instantly milky throughout.

That's good, yeah i just dissolve mine into some hot water and then add it in, i just know i've seen some folks talk about adding it straight to the brew and they didn't get that good of results though perhaps they did something else wrong idk.

But yeah so long as one has enough base and a proper brew, it should precipitate on out. I just know that if you try to base a hot brew then you have to let it cool down preferably in the fridge for the extract to precipitate out, there's been a few times i've based hot brews and nothing happened until the solution cooled down.

Well, I gave the extraction a second try. This time I did not encounter problems. While using new seeds from the same vendor. I do think that my adding of the sodium carbonate was indeed the problem. If the product I used did in fact contain sodium carbonate. This time I used lye, and for the last run sodium carbonate what I manufactured from sodiumbicarbonate.

Now I do have another question: I accidentally used salt with Iodium. Instructions warn against this. Is this a real problem now? The end product looks the same as what I gather from internet pictures.

I made an extraction pictorial years ago here on the shroomery, a handfull of members already succeeded to extract some nice freebase as well as HCl crystals by following this simple TEK.

The method is pretty simple..
Just boil the seeds in plain water (no acidification needed), filter the seeds out, then add some basic solution to the liquid, let it all stand for a while, then filter out the precipitated solids and let them dry.
This gets you a crude extract that might need some more purification, but this is optional as it's good to ingest as it is.

IME it's far more potent taken whole in seed form full spectrum. 

I used to get Harmaline isolate in a dropper vial. It didn't actually produce a psychoactive effect only MAOI. Chucked it!

Combined with DMT Syrian Rue is probably the most therapeutic psychoactive substance I've ever ingested.

One only needs a gram or two and even messing with the DMT:Rue ratios can have a profound effect on the experience.

Embrace the nausea as you should the experience itself and it will resolve itself one way or the other.

Personally i just use regular iodized salt, i don't think the iodine messes with anything that i can tell. On a few occasions i have used non-iodized salt and couldn't tell any difference compared to using the iodized salt. So it should be just fine ime.
