Thank you for the laugh this morning and I appreciate you dropping by.  The home-depot martha comment was hilarious.  I don't talk about myself much, I let the mushroom cultivation do the talking, but I did the same thing over at Topia years back and hit the ground running.  I'm sure people were like (at the time), who is this dude, and where did he come from. Yup, I just jump right on in the game and get busy... or jiggy with it.  Cube growers will always keep the boards active with momentum, but I grow mainly exotics and edible/med woodie blocks.  Shiitakes, Lions Mane, and Oysters... OMY!

Tell me about it, watch out for Oysters and Reishi, they sporulate like crazy.

Another day in the life of a cultivator, I have 10 meal prep trays ready to case, finish up this Peace River Pan spawn.  I'm still dialing in the tent with the old 3rd and 4th flush tubs; I can't get a drop on the racks even bouncing the humidity from 95-93%.  The casing is moist (no tumbling pieces of casing tilting the tub), no beads, but I just bumped it up to 96 from 95. I'll give it until to tonight and check the tubs, the fruits liked the uptick I think, but they are fizzling a little, the bottom tub popped new pins so I'm assuming it liked the higher humidity and a little less air.  I'm just riding the tubs adjusting for the upcoming trays. 

Casing Recipe:  Ok it's not really a recipe, but it's what I have used over and over with no issues. 

1 quart of Peat
1 quart of Verm
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) Oyster Shell Flour, or any Calcium Carbonate, Marble Dust etc...
1 pint of water, and a 1/8 of a cup to counter the OSF









I'm making 2 quarts, should be more than enough to case them

So, you see the casing, it's tried and true (many cycles), well now we have to pasteurize, don't fret, it's really simple and I'll show you, for casing I do 60-90 minutes, and subs I like a little longer, 90-120.  I do pasteurize on the higher end from 150-160 it's my preference, but if it dips below 150, it's fine, just not under 140.  Follow along and find out, all in real time today.

 
Now you have your 2 quarts of casing at capacity and now they are ready for a hot water bath.  I have done this many times, so I don't check sub/casing temps anymore but for the sake of show and tell, I put a piece of foil over 1 of the quarts instead of the SFD lids I normally use.





Yes indeed, putting that PC back to work again.  Pic is with regular lids, but I switched one for foil. 



Now, you have your two quarts in the bath, it's time to bring the temp up to 170 degrees, the jars are around 85-90 degrees at this point, so going to 170 will cancel out when the jars start heating up. 




Now, put the lid on, unlocked, and no weight and turn off the burner and set a timer for 40 minutes.  The temp will rise to about 175 degrees give or take, no issue since we aren't in the 140 range yet... internally in the jars.

Come back 40 minutes later, turn on the heat (for about a minute or so, it's fast), to get the water back to 160, and check your internal temp.  I'll be honest and truthful here, I cheated, I already know my timeframes, so I went over just for the sake of showing and explaining the process. 

After 40 minutes, you are well into pasteurization mode, I normally set a timer for 35 minutes, but I went 40 for the sake of showing that I'm already at 150 degrees... well past 140.   



Now your water is back from turning on the heat for a minute to 160, turn off the burner, and it will usually rise to about 163F, jars are 150 at this time, set a timer for 45 minutes.  Now that you know your jars are in range, no need to check internal temperature anymore, now you just focus on the water temp. 

45 minutes later... halfway home, same thing, bump the heat for a minute or so and back to 160, turn off, set 45-minute timer.  That's it, 90 minutes done, you can do this one more time if you're not in a hurry (longer pasteurization), or just let them cool, you will get 20+ more minutes cooling the jars back below 140 anyway.

If you pull the jars right away, it takes about an hour and a half, to 2 hours to cool.  I like to let them sit there since I usually use them later that day, but 90 minutes is 90 minutes of above 140F, you can cool right away it's no problem, just leave the lids (or foil) on to naturally come down below 100F.  Warm is fine, any hotness is not what you want.  That's what I do, lather, rinse, AND repeat.

I have heard that the sporeload of black oysters can be so detrimentally large that they require special venitilation and PPE to be grown and harvested in this way, in massive colobnies or large operations. Ive hear the sporulation is and can be heavy and aggressive

Yup, some oysters will blow up your chamber, spores all over everything, best to keep an eye on them and pick on the earlier side of harvest, rather than trying to squeeze every last drop out of the block.

Oh, you can't miss those spores, reddish orange, brown, it can turn into a nightmare, harvest earlier without a doubt.  Reishi also grows great in the springtime outside; you can bury them in recycled soil and a little covering and like Turkey Tail, polypore's take time to develop.  I want to say if memory serves me, TT was a month or more... Reishi similar, not going to be like Oysters or shiitakes, which shiitake blocks take up time too (colonizing and browning), but fast fruiting once in the chamber.

so for humidity, you have a 80mm fan running 24/7 from that fog tote with the 3-disk fogger.  do you use a humidity sensor/control to turn something on/off to keep it at a certain RH?  I saw you said you turned it up from 95% to 96% earlier, what are you changing?  Some people say that they prefer to have everything on timer schedules, rather than relying on a sensor...

Also, how about venting in an exhaust for spore load?  My friend was talking about putting a carbon filter in there, but I imagine those would get clogged up, or maybe not even take the spore load.  we can't vent directly to the outdoors.

I'm also trying to set up a martha, so this helps, but i'm curious what you plan on for making your PVC-framed FC.  would you still use that 3-disk fogger?  get more disks?  I'm interested in something like that, i think.

And, about Lion's Mane...  how do the conditions those need compare to the conditions of Panaeolus cyanescens?  would you run them side-by-side with anything?  would it make more sense to have separate marthas with different conditions there?

I am currently bouncing the humidity from 97-95% with an inkbird controller, it drops all the way to about 92% before the controller catches up real time, and boom, back climbing the ladder again. 

Lion Mane, I have a pic around here them growing invitro, through filter patches, through the top of the bag, you can't stop them, they will fruit in the dark, but I prefer 95% or higher with many exchanges, and yes, once you figure out your system, most of the mushrooms will grow in the same environment.  That one pic I showed, had Pan trays, TT and LM in the same environment.  AT one time, I had so many blocks in the chamber at the same time, it was wild in there, but yes... all mushrooms love high humidity, and you add constant air trickling in, it's like a supercharger on a hot rod, more compressed air... run more fuel. 

One must think like a mushroom, not like a human.  In nature, mushrooms (in general) thrive from the evaporating water at surface level when it quits raining.  Being in the open-air outdoor environment, and massive evaporation happening (wind and temp drying the ground), this is what we are trying to recreate indoors.  For instance, i'm currently running 97%, which creeps up to about 97.3, and the casing doesn't have any beads, but moist.  There is finally a small trickle of water beads on the side of the tent near the piping (going from 96-97H), that is it, dry racks, tubs, and fruits.  Soggy subs, no good, dry like the Sahara desert, not conducive for pinning. You are trying to keep pins popping, and new fruits dry, dial it in and most importantly, keep track of surface conditions, and how do the fruits look, wet caps, dry cracks, slow growing, follow the mushroom through the cycle.

I know that AC infinity has scrubbers that work with tents, but I'm actively pushing air out of the bottom of the tent, and yes, no spore fest in the tent, pick earlier, it's not worth the risk and or mess to clean up.

Whole new way to grow for me lol always done outdoor or tubs or top fruited xd

Your 777 post is trippin' me out right now, I have hit 1000 quarters years ago many times (3 times in one day in Reno) on triple 7's, won 10000 quarters (2500 bucks) in Tahoe on Red White and Blue 7's playing an old 3 Stooges game.  Triple 7's, we have history, thank you for the memory trigger, if you need help with your tent, I'm here fungus friend. I almost turned my 2x4 tent into a mushroom growing machine, but unfamiliar territory and I would have had to buy more equipment, and I already had everything ready to go, new tent, new controller, changed out the 3 discs for new ones, it was more about cleaning everything and doing it right.  This tent I have now is the smallest one I have ran, but it's temporary, the previous Home Depot comment, not far off, it is a Miracle Grow Tent.  :laugh:

I know the feeling, can't wait to see you get back to it, so much has changed, yet some things stay the same... cultivation evolves, but it's all the same concept.  Tub growing will be around purely on simple and effective, I have grown cubes in a Martha, great pinsets, watch the moisture, but not really worth it since Tubs are the way for Cubes in my opinion. 









These were clones from Faht (uncased, light top layer only), all credit goes to him, the wheat seed man, but I don't grow too many cubes these days, unless it means something to me, and genetics from Faht, I'll definitely run a cycle or two.  All the best, and jump back on that saddle and RIDE... muscle memory like riding a bike... just peddle.

Alright folks, I cased up the 9 trays about a day and a half ago, I put the lids over the trays but unsnapped before going in the chamber.

The trays were misted really well a day and a half ago, check the corners, a little dry, this makes me happy since I'm misting them again before sending them to the tent anyway.  I don't like to mist while they are colonizing the casing, should be in spots, as seen below.
 
 





A couple of tubs still going in the bottom there, testing different levels of the chamber, I'll harvest the 6qt later tonight, 3rd flush or wave of Pans. 









In other news, blocks of Pink Oyster are catching fire a little, looking good so far.

Gonna throw my enigma tub n caerulesen tub in the tint n set it up with a weekly timer for now and next month il get a Humidity controller and maby another tent or martha something like that n a ac n racks.

Thinking il do a ac in one to start azures n ps cyans cold drops n have it connected to the other one that il have the humidifier in it with a temp controller and heater outside the tent if needed 😎

I can't wait to see your setup, always intrigued to see what others are doing to accomplish the same goal.  I have been through three configurations, part of the thrill for me, doing things a different way for the same end result.
