All centipedes have venom because they're hunters. It's just that most cant harm a human (like most spiders).

Oh wow I didn't know that!
I think what I have called for ages "centipedes" in Australia are actually "millipedes"

Also, thanks everyone for reviving this great thread. I always loved it

I love your turtles so much. I would love to be out walking and just see one of them!

My brother had turtles in this giant pool (he really spoilt them). My mum did most of the work and what did the turtle do? Scrambled up her chest and bit her on the lip lol. Was funny tho

Thanks my dear

Funny story bout your mum!

You guys have a lot of awesomely strange turtles down under:yesnod:

For a while I thought millipedes could be dangerous, but I learned that's not really true. Millipedes can't make venom. It's just the centipedes that can be right bastards.

(Mind you centipedes are still beneficial and most aren't really dangerous, but I'd never handle one).

I tried to handle centipedes too  ,  but they bite the shizznit out of me! I'll  never do it again

I spotted this garter snake chilling under the water while I was out hiking the other day.

All of the creeks around here are like that. Crystal clear, highly oxygenated, cold, free stone mountain creeks. The native habitat of the rainbow trout.

I caught seven that day.

Man, we are so insignificant compared to the trillions and trillions of other life around us.

That is such a calming thought. There is nothing so significant about me.

Lucky you!

Our creek water is cold enough to support them here, but the habitat is all wrong.

The water is also clear,  but its heavily polluted with sewer and garbage:sad:

No photo but I saw a rainbow lorikeet sitting on the powerlines today. You don't see them off a tree often. I like it when I see birds other than crows cockies and maggies on the lines (although I love them too)

People are very significant. One person suffering terrible things alone is a crime against humanity. There is only one of you and there are no replacements. Same goes for everyone. Human life is precious, as is all life.

It takes a huge amount of effort and love to raise children.

Dont believe that bullshit that our lives are insignificant. Everything is significant.

I know what you mean. I do. I know that what I said probably sounded negative but I mean it as a clarifying thought.

For instance I realise that I do not matter as I have felt in the past: I am not the centre of the world. I am not the centre of anything. The hurt I've put people through is not the end of their world nor is it the end of mine. It's not significant. The good I do is not significant, it signifies no inherent goodness. it is just something I have done.

I don't think I can phrase it properly. It's similar to a thought I had once on acid that was as simple as "everything is one. Good is bad and bad is good." I can't actually put the thought I had at the time into words because it was more than a thought. It was a feeling.

And actually I WOULD like to rephrase what I initially said.

Instead of "we are insignificant COMPARED to the trillions..." I believe

"We are insignificant ALONG WITH the trillions..."

But I do mean also that one human is no more significant than an amoeba.
