OP, very cool Antrodia.  I like those things.

It was my first time finding it that I recall. It was quite a site the way it covered the tree. The most amazing part is that it only grew on the undersides and shaded sides of the branches! It was like... nah, f*ck the sun I'ma kick it in the shade :paradisiscoolwhat:

How did you make the lizard pic?  That is some high quality work there.

You all are too kind! It is actually a fun exercise in gimp 2.6. When you were a kid, did you ever scribble a riot of colors and then cover that all with black crayon and scrape the black off a bit at a time to reveal the color underneath? Well it's similar here in that I made a duplicate copy of the background and made the top copy black and white (I prefer to use Color-->Components-->Channel Mixer for this but there are much easier methods e.g. Desaturation). The secret tek is then to right-click on the black and white copy and Add Layer Mask. Then make sure that White (full opacity) is checked, then hit Add. Now you want to select the paint brush tool (or maybe spray paint or sponge for a cool effect!) at which point you can literally paint the original color back onto whichever part of the image you like. The key is to zoom in a good deal to make sure you are staying inside the lines. The neat thing about this method is that if you select black as your paint color it paints the original photo color in, but if you select white then it restores the black and white! Once you get the steps down it will only take about 10 minutes depending on the intricacy of the colored area. WARNING!!! Do not use this method because you will lose many hours applying it to dozens of photos :awesomenod:

@Blue-funguy:  It is! I was super excited because I have only found the non-venomous lookalikes up until now.

personally i dont think that is a defining characteristic. I think purple U.V. remnants in forma lavendula and this may be habits of the same species with the same genetics. and the [same] organism's appearance may look different as it responds to certain environmental factors

im not too educated on the use of forms and variations in taxonomy (and their use to describe environmental responses in an organism), but I can say this definitely falls under "Amanita citrina"

Jesus christ this is awesome.

I remember sitting at the pc for hours learning paint shop pro.  Late 90's there was an MSN group that hosted tutorials and stuff, amazing stuff!  Even learned PSP animation.
I have that gimp and haven't had time to play around with it, but now you've got my attention.

you may be right.
i just know that what i'm observing is not described.
that might just mean updating the current information on the species.

OK, why isn't anyone even mentioning the photo of the highly venomous snake? Well, now I did and I don't care if that makes me uncool.

Cactu found one of these in a huge pile of sawdust at an abandoned sawmill in Jalisco.  The snake tried to get away by crawling into a hole in the sawdust, so he grabbed its tail and yelled for me to come over.  I got there and he handed me the tail of the snake.  It wasn't coming out - snakes are ver good at not going backwards.  I didn't want to hurt the snake (and I didn't really want to pull it out either, we were many hours from the nearest hospital) so I let it go.

I haven't seen one since, but I am careful around that huge pile of sawdust now.

This is the place where we found 30 pounds of Psilocybe caerulescens.

Apparently, coral snake antivenin is no longer available in the U.S., so no reason to spend your last minutes in a futile dash to the ER. (In Mexico, you can probably buy it in every pharmacy) There are not enough coral snakes bites to break a profit on antivenin sales - so, the drug companies got out of the biz. The invisible hand of the free market working its magic again.

I remember PSP too, wow, that was such a long time ago. I had a blast playing around with that  Today I'd be at a loss as to how to use it.

I know what you mean. Snakes are surprisingly strong once you start pulling them by the tail. They literally won't go backward.

As a general rule, black widows and fungi won't be sharing the same space in the forest. The spiders like dry, sunny hillsides and hilltops,. They stay out of sight until nightfall. You're probably down in the moist valleys while the sun is shining.

There was just so much rain last fall in the Mid-Atlantic, there were mushrooms everywhere. (As well as other strange fungi like the one in my photo.) I took hundreds of photos, many I've been intending to upload but the task of cropping, resizing, color correcting, etc. mentally overwhelms me and I keep blowing it off.

Ha ha on a second thought I fold.  I was thinking something related to gypsy moths. But now I'm leaning towards a slime mold.  Just never saw one like that on a tree.
