Re: Acidulated extraction for mushroom gummies and drops (new) [Re: YoshiTrainer] * 1

Thanks Yoshi! Round 1 cooling in the fridge. I ended up reducing a little more than half, which ended up giving me a cup of liquid. That cup for a double batch of gummies came out to roughly .44g/gummy(assuming a 10:1 fresh:dry ratio and zero extraction loss). Probably closer to .38g/gummy with 1/6 extraction loss.

My issue with the sediment is that it didn't seem to settle out at all and remained suspended in the solution. Not sure the reasoning there.

Maybe the sediment is related to mucilage from the mush? I forgot to mention, do as much filtering as you can before you reduce the volume.

Around .4g per gummy is a pretty versatile dose. 1 or 2 for a little sparkle, a handful for a solid mental reset.

Good luck!

I think you are right on both accounts. Currently trying to put some of the acidulated reduced liquid through a coffee filter and it is acting more like the pitch drop experiment than anything.

Yeah, definitely filter like crazy, before reducing. As you found out, it is a beach to do it after, even if you had a Buchner funnel.

Oh well, next time will be easier!

Enjoy!

Hoping for some help here - I followed Yoshi’s recipe with the jello packs. I doubled it and used 1c concentrated tea from 50g dry.

After overnight in the fridge, the gummies are very, very gelatinous. I used bear molds, which I know is not ideal. I am able to get them out of the mold in one piece, but they are so gooey my fingers get sticky doing so. Is there anything I can do to further cure them? I put one tray in a dehydrator at 95f for one hour - that seemed to have no effect. I did coat the molds with oil and carnauba wax.

If I were going to consume these soon I might not worry about it but I was hoping to store longer term. I had planned to vac seal but I feel like even the pressure from the vac sealer would turn them to goop.

You can melt them down and then add bloomed unflavored gelatin then repour into your molds. There is a section at the end of this tek called: Turning Jelly Into Gummies that covers firming up sticky or melty gummies.

That should solve it for you.

Hello Myco816  did you happen to add 4 gelatin packs along with your 2 boxes of Jello and 1C water. I'm guessing that is what  is missing? If so, some possible fixes:

1. Dissolve your 4 packs of gelatin in the least amount of water while still getting it to dissolve. Scrape in a pot along with you gummy mix and slowly heat while stirring to a simmer and all the gelatin has completely melted. Pour back in molds and cool.

2. Maybe could put your current gummies, in their molds, in a dehydrator? Run them lowest temp for ? hours?

3. Lots of sugar and ascorbic acid on the outside?

Just saw what Rev posted, thanks Rev!

Yes, I used 4 Knox gelatin packs, for a total of 1oz. I added them to the cooled 1 cup of concentrated tea and let it bloom for 2 minutes

I will try popping some in my dehydrator and see how that goes. If that doesn’t work I will re-melt them as rev myc suggested.

If I decide to re-melt, do you think I should add another whole 4 packs of Knox to a little bit of water, let that bloom then stir it into the melted mix and re-pour?

Thank you a lot for this tek

Have some of you had trouble with last part ? my mixture becomes too thick and kind of tar-ish. then it doesnt mix with alcohol anymore... I'd like to make some drops. I use a magnetic agitator/heater to control temperature BTW.

also, have some of you found a way to prevent terrible taste

Thank youuu !

Excellent Post! How long is the shelf life on the drops?
