What are these blobs?
    #29577617 -

I’ve been growing stuff for years and have been attempting to unsuccessfully grow P. Azurescens indoors for the last 4 years. Now that I think I've come close to getting fruits, these began growing out of the sides. The tub is fully colonized and it seemed  ready for fruiting. In fact, at one point I thought these blobs were morphing into a single mushroom, but I cant make out what this is. Anyone have an idea or inkling as to what’s occurring?

Someone posted a Wavy Cap spawn cake with very similar looking growths that started growing from the sides of the cake in my FB group.

There was some lively discussion about whether it was abnormal Wavy Cap growths  or something else. Personally, I'd say it's likely to be a competitor species trying to fruit. The first pic looks like it could be some sort of crust or bracket fungus.

Does it look like there's a stalk underneath or they growing from a swollen mass at their base down in the substrate?

I tore them off and you were right, definitely some type of advantageous Hydnellum. I’ve included more pics for the curious.

It’s definitely in the hydnellum family, it’s super tough and conky. Thing must’ve hitched a free ride with the grass seeds.
