AZ I would like to nerd out with you on this topic in person. I fucking love talking to people who have a super interest in something.

I actually think it's one of the BEST things in life. Talking to someone about their passion. Probably why I love Shroomery gives me a chance to talk about mushroom foraging and mental health both of which are my interests.

Well if we are ever in each others hemisphere, we should do that. I can nerd out on music all day. My tastes are wide ranging. Been a constant passion in my life since I was a tot. Music is what brought my wife and I together. We met at a concert in 2004, technically at the preshow party :lol:
I only wish I had applied and disciplined myself to really excel at an instrument. I have a few regrets in my life and that is one of them.

Is your goal to be in a mental heath profession eventually?

It's never to late to learn something. I used to like keyboards and I enjoy reading music (I really can't do it well at all, like primary school level, but it has such as nice overlay of maths and language that it's very interesting). I wanna learn French. I will give it a go

I think I would like to try working in mental health nursing at some point once I get my shit together. Problem with Aus is you usually need to do further training while working in mental health, so I can't just "go and get a job in it". I don't want to commit to further study.

Alternatively I can work in general practice (where I am now) and let the doctors know I have an interest in mental health. There's not much monetary benefit for them in that but they may give me some of their mental health patients on care plans to just go over with them what they are doing to better their situation.

Idk. Will see how it pans out.

You are def right about it never being too late! I just need to remind myself of that. I have been playing drums most of my life, but I could have been and could be way better than I am. I’m too embarrassed to play in a band, so it’s just more of a basement hobby fun activity. I’ve been thinking about taking guitar lessons and maybe some drum lessons to reignite and regain my chops. I can decipher written music, but can’t really read it. We’ll see how far I take my thoughts. I really envy people that can play multiple instruments and be good at it all. Also same for people that can speak more than one language. I can barely speak my own correctly!

I think if you really enjoy the mental health field, try and go for it. Don’t give up on dreams. I gave up on too many in my life. I always had an excuse. Don’t be me. Learn that French, don’t give up on those keyboards.
