The casings were from rye seeds. When putting it with a pile of dung in a hole, soil on top, could it than be possible??

Sure it could. You would have to pasturize your dung/compost first.
But if your gonna go through all that trouble why not just use some new grain?

The casings are spent, and they will be thrown away, just want to find out if they can produce some more outside.
I am colonising new grain for new casings but thought I could give it a try!

what can it hurt to toss them outside....
If you throw them out they definitely won't grow. If you put them out back you have a chance of getting something
Karen

Okay, mushroom queen, you are definately a mushroom queen, they want to grow near you. You have such positive karma that shrooms are pinning rapid. Could you send me some of that karma.
I will try and sterilize a pile of minkdung use this for substrate for spent equador casings outside!!
Hope it will work!

hey there nononsense.
i've done this with all my spent and slightly contaminated gear.
planted it.
i've put it in (under) the lawn, in the garden, in the fernery, you name it and i've put it there.
i've been doing this now for.....maybe....mmmm.....8 months.
so far nothing.
before i started actually growing, for years i would go out and pick mushrooms and bring them home and try and indentify them.
then i'd throw them on the back lawn/yard and leave them.
now in mushy season i have lots and lots of these mushrooms come up when the time is right!
mushroom season is now around the corner here, and i'm hoping that i'll have some new varieties to look at when it finally happens.
plant yours and see what happens, but don't hold your breath.
my personal opinion is that spores or complete mushrooms are better to scatter around than spent substrate, but that doesn't stop me from planting the leftovers................just in case :)

Did you also add new substrate to the spent ones???
I'm thinking of mixing it up with some mink dung.
Without sterilization because I'm NOT going to COOK MINK DUNG because of the awfull smell!!!!
I am going to dig a hole put my spent casings mixed with mink dung in it and put sand over it. Hope it works morlahere!!

yeah. put some mink poo with it, can't hurt? and it might help
and no. i don't sterilise it or anything...if it survives it survives.

Don't think that, because mink poo is just another substrate.
Maybe I'm gonna try it with my Pan. Tropicalis, they need poo to grow, mixed with verm. and fine grade perlite it might work for a new tek!
Mink poo tek
