Good call on removing the gaskets. Just went ahead and did that. I really feel like my cakes are looking pretty good. When I open the lids things seem humid and smell nice and mushroomy. They just don't seem to want to pop. Here's the latest from this morning. Plenty of knotted up fluffy looking mycelium but no pinning yet.








I will keep everyone posted. We're all in this together at this point :lol:

Unfortunately still no pins on my cakes...at this point the tub with 5 cakes has been going for 16 days and the tub with 7 cakes has been going for 9.

Everything still smells nice and mushroomy, no contam to speak of, but  I'm feeling like something is wrong at this point. Is there any chance that they're just slow growers and might start pinning as late as the 3 week mark? Trying to diagnose if I did anything wrong but I really am not sure. I'm doing my best to stay patient but I can feel myself starting to to lose hope a bit.

Idk anymore maybe I've just been looking at these way too long. Whether I trip on them or not at the very least these shrooms are trying to teach me patience :lol:

Well that's good to hear at least! These are my 7 GT cakes and have only been in the tub for 9 days so I have more hope for them.

As for the other 5 cakes on the green tray - those are bluey Vuitton and have been in there for 16 days now. They had rapid myc growth at first but have seemingly stalled out.

*Edit* Wow I just looked at the pic again and see the pin right on top clear as day now. I guess I was looking at those outcroppings of myc on the side and missed the clear as day pin. We have life!

Still not sure what is going on with the bluey Vuitton cakes but I just checked am seeing more tiny pins on the GT cakes. Woohoo!

I see at least one forming in the lid that another cake rests upon. The right leg of the three cakes that form a triangle.

I feel you neuro. We all try to act very adult about this waiting business, but I for one never got the hang of it.

Yup I will fully own that I'm a dumbass for this one. I've had a couple insane days at work so I think I just glanced at the tubs and thought they weren't growing instead of noticing the pins that are a bit camouflaged by the verm :lol: I'm seeing even more now and also see what you mean about that one in the lid...that is very interesting. It almost looks like it isn't even connected to the cake itself somehow?! Maybe it's attached but just on the very edge.

Makes me wonder more about the BV cakes because I used the EXACT same process for those but still am not seeing any pins at 16 days. But knowing now that my methodology isn't completely flawed I guess I have a bit more hope that those are just slow growers.

And yeah...patience is tough. My whole intent for getting back into psychs after a decade away is self betterment so I guess this learning process is step #1

I guess we were all there at the beginning. I checked my first cakes every hour :hypnotic:

And looking for pins in the werm is also a kind of Finding Wally (Finding Pinny?), so with time and practice you just get better at it :wink: Normal

Update

We have lots of pins and at least one chonker.
We also have a party crasher. 😆
Not sure what flavor it is, it's a pretty color green though. It isn't moving quickly, so I'm not sweating it for now.










Nuther update

The party crasher doesn't seem to be causing any trouble, so we're not worried about them for now.
I bet you can guess which one is getting cloned first. 😆








Final update
Lots of nice lil fellas in there.
But the party crasher is starting to make a scene. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!

Not a dumbass. Once you know what you look for, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Same thing with 'trich' or mold infestations in general. Or foraging wild mushrooms. Once your brain knows the pattern, your eyes seem to pick up a lot more.

And you are on the lucky side. You wouldn't believe how many people proudly upload a pic of their firstish tub and totally overlooked that rapidly expanding spot of mold in the corner.

Appreciate it everyone. I guess my question now is do I keep misting the cakes when things look dry even though I now have some pins popping through? I've read a lot of conflicting info here but it makes sense to me to still provide light misting as long as it's indirect.

And any thoughts on what to do with my 5 BV cakes? Like half of the 7 GT cakes are now pinning at only 9 days in the tub but the BV cakes are 16 days in with no pins.

@Scemilope those look awesome! I'm jealous - hoping for a fraction of that success on my end!

Well boys I have myself a fine harvest

I was looking at my small water tub and noticed there was a little mushroom growing through the bottom of my little green mesh vegetable crisper tray. When I tried to pick up my cake the pin fell right off and stayed stuck on the tray. A whopping 3.09 grams wet :rofl:

As ridiculous as it is I figured I might as well throw it in my dehydrator to make sure it works and can use it as a test. Also I'm assuming this would be safe to eat even though it didn't grow to maturity?

This LC was supposedly bluey Vuitton. I feel like it looks like APE?

Since it was growing in the bottom into the water (away from the light) I am thinking things must not be humid enough in there. So I will take that into account. I have also since put lids under those cakes so I don't have any more growing down in the direction of the water. I wish I took a picture before I (accidentally) picked it

I now have some decent pinning/growth going on my GT cakes that have been in the water tub for 2 weeks.





A bit of a mutant here? Not exactly sure what is going on there lol.



Seems like a bit of fuzzy feet going on but not out of control. A bit more FAE I guess?



Also, besides the one pin growing down towards the water that I mentioned above nothing doing in my other tub that has been going almost 3 weeks. These were supposedly Bluey Vuitton but based on the on little guy that grew it looks more like APE. The vendor that I got these from also has APE LC so I wonder if things got mixed up. I have heard these are slow growers, but at what point do I try dunking again?
