Is bread really that bad?
    #29468672 -

All these extreme trends online don't seem good. Even if you just look up eating bread it says how unhealthy it is

Why can't most things in moderation be ok? I don't hear that often anymore. It's all extreme & all or nothing

I've been making homemade pizza and having a little bit most days. Looking it up it says it's basically a death sentence. It seems sort of ridiculous to me. All though i could be wrong?

If you're getting mostly everything you need daily. Without overeating & already being in good health. It surely can not be that bad

Even everything coming from mostly a old school homemade style. No fast food or anything even

Googel & ai are basically demonizing bread.

Bread is ok in moderation, just like any other processed food. Get the majority of your calories from whole, clean sources and you’re fine.

Bread is both probiotic and prebiotic. Even though cooking bread kills most of the yeast, some resistant cells survive, meaning that the yeast in bread can help get things started within your own digestive system.

Bread also, when it contains whole grains, has a lot of fiber, which slows down the blood sugar spikes from carbohydrates and contains a number of antioxidants.

Now, bleached fiber is a lot shitter in many ways. The bleaching process removes carotenoids, which are powerful antioxidants. Also, the bread has way less fiber, making the carbohydrates act more like sugar. Even still though, white bread still has some probiotic qualities, and sourdough even more so.

Bread is part of a complete balanced diet. Just dont eat it as your main thing - the less processed the better, the more whole grains the better. And sourdough may have unique benefits.

Bread is great for you. You just got to limit the heavy carb load. But after long cardio run, bread is my go to carb.

The reason its placed as terrible is heavy carb and large amount of wheat can be hard on the digestive system especially since most Europeans people have allergies to different wheat proteins.

Why is this post anonymous?

Are you worried about the Keto Mafia coming after you?

Google AI is dogshit. Aside from that, Google doesn't say anything. Just point s you to stuff other people said, with a hard detour through whoever pays them to be at the top of the list. Maybe that's the problem. Bread doesn't need to advertise. People are already pretty into it.

I dont know how you got AI to tell you bread was bad... maybe it was based on the type of things you put in? AI seemed to be suggestible for whatever you prompt it to say. When I asked gemini AI 'is bread good or bad', it gave me a detailed post touching on many of the points I had in my post, and ended with this.

AI really should not be a source, though, as B Travern said, it's only something that can lead you to other resources.

A side note - one slice of whole grain bread can spike blood sugar as much as a Snickers bar

Decades of insulin abuse frequently leads to type 3 diabetes (dementia & Alzheimer's)

not all bread is created equal, if your eating wonderbread everyday i belive the poster above me is right

if youre eating a sourdogh a few times a week you made with rye flour starter and hell lets go even more rare and say you use the rye flour starter with a spelt flour for the loaf, its going to be very different

if you are in ontario check out stone bridge flour, its freshly ground to order (note i havnt ordered any yet so if its a scam im sorry but i plan to order from them sometime soon)

The broad reality is that extreme statements often drive initial curiosity and subsequent engagement.  The internet is largely a marketing machine these days, and by extension, a human-attention harvester.  Make some wild and crazy statement that gets someone to raise an eyebrow or simply say "WTF?" and they might be intrigued enough to spend a few minutes figuring out why you made that extreme statement, even if your supporting evidence is suspect or non-existent.

Because time is always at a premium and folks seem to be losing the ability to be patient and thoughtfully examine subjects by the day, these types of pique-attention-and-draw-engagement statements become all the more extreme, in efforts to foster an emotional reaction and in turn draw you in right away, regardless of veracity.

I fully subscribe to the idea that most things in moderation are absolutely ok.  For the bulk of human history, we simply didn't have the supporting infrastructure to be as picky as we are now.  Which isn't to say that I'm not at least a little concerned about the prevalence of highly processed foods in conjunction with the highly sedentary lifestyle that the average human seems to embrace... but that doesn't mean you should be looking for some specific item to blame for your troubles.

Perhaps one's troubles are on account of one being too myopic in their views or actions?  A little more moderation and variety would likely go a long way toward improved physical and mental health across the board.  But I'm getting off topic...

Bread is fucking awesome, mmkay?  Don't you dare blame bread for anything other than being delicious!
