New Music Purchases

today i was lucky enough to come across a copy of
Syd Barret's "Crazy Diamond" 3 cd box set
it's great, comes with a 23 page book
and lots of his crazy lyrics
that guy was out there
i also picked up:
Modest Mouse: Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Grateful Dead: Live Dead
The Glove- Blue Sunshine (this group features Robert Smith from the Cure as well as a couple of folks from Souixsie and the Banshees)
Gang of Four- Solid Gold/Another Day Another Dollar

but the real score is the out of print Barrett box set
i need to go smoke some more now
this music is getting inside my head

actually this is the first time i have listened to his solo stuff
i am listening to a track called "late night" from the album "opel"
right now and it seems to fit my mood perfectly

it's very uneven
all the way from bad to stunning to visionary to derivitative
but well worth it i think
a glimpse into a strange mind
and a great guitar player

I know that some of syds recordings actually have david gilmore playing....some of the early solo stuff I think...I?m farily sure I saw this on a vh1 think on pink floyd and gilmore was talking about it. They were great friends and sometimes syd was just so scattered that gilmore would end up having to do some of the recording for him...or something to that effect. But I could be wrong here.
