What makes music special for you?

I mean, there's some of us that spend most of our lifes listening to music (And we all know who we are right? )
So in thinking about how any of you seem to be so into music as I am, I was wondering what makes music so important for you, does it make you feel conected with the artist or other people, do you enjoy dancing, maybe the lyrics give you significance for life? Let's hear it!
I think for me it's mostly that I love hearing someone saying some truths about life in a beautiful manner, and as such like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd... It's not a one time thing for me to say "how the fuck did they think of saying it like that!"
Another reason is that sometimes I really connect with what someones singing say about themselves, about their life. Like a flamenco or blues singer, letting all their pain out. It impresses me that they can connect that way with people thru such an emotion.
So anyway, what about you guys? What do you think makes music SO important in our lifes?

It's the most unexplainable thing man, music, humans have been making it for thousands of years, and I don't think we'll ever stop. There is a certain connection with some kids of music, whether it be through the bass line, or the rythym, lyrics, effects, etc. I listen to as much music as I can, I would die without it. And for the most part I don't know why, I am a man of music, I always have. Ever since I picked up my first real album (Sgt. Pepper's) when I was 10, I've never been the same. I can't stop listening to the music, playing the drums, going to concerts, or just talking/thinking about it. Music is my life

Listening to Music... Music helps me remember things. I associate times in my life with the songs, a soundtrack to my life, but also something akin to an external hard drive.
Playing Music 1. Playing music with other people is a great form of connection.
2. Music disciplines the mind. Playing music requires skill, and this skill is cumulative. So, music provides an ongoing challenge, a discipline. Music can be a form of meditation.

Music that is special to me is music that I can connect with through the sound and especially the lyrics, which is why I love tool.

When I hear songs I remember, where I might have been, and the friends back then. Then think how time flies, and before we know it 20 or more years have flown by.

music = soulfood
in every aspect... music makes me dance, sing, play along, groove along, cry, laugh and sometimes all of these at once... it's what keeps me going when i feel down... it's what makes me even happier when things are doing great... it's what reminds me of good times and bad times... what makes me re-appreciate past moments, friends and experiences...
i certainly couldn't live without music... without hearing it, feeling it and above all playing it... so thank you, creation, for sound... and for our ability to produce it...

I like what music does to me and that almost as simple as it gets. Music has soul and passion and life. and it's like a drug in that way where if you give yourself to the music, if you just give into what it says and is doing it takes you on a trip. I love the way music intoxicates me with almost any mood or emotion or setting or... state of mind.. whatever you want to call it. music is intoxicating on many levels.

When the song can take you to that place that nothing else can. After seeing at least 100+ live acts I can still remember the exact moment when the music and the music alone took me to a level that I have never reached before. I was completely sober(minus a beer or two and a few joints) at Phish in Minneapolis at the Target Center during Divided Sky. I was jamming out to the song then the part when the band goes silent for a few moments the serenity and purity was outstanding. I closed my eyes right as Trey started to bring them back into it and was lifted so high I never wanted to come back. I have had that feeling many other times but that was the one that made the biggest impact on me. The feeling that music, the thing that I have invested so much of my time, money and life into finally showed my why. I have been chasing that feeling ever since and will chase it the rest of my life. I hope the rest of you can find the same feeling that I get every time I close my eyes and let the music take to that place, the place I call heaven.
