Hey folks,
This is something I’ve been thinking about for literally decades but I took several long breaks from culting and I finally got around to making it.
As anyone who’s used grain spawn blender slurry knows, it’s incredibly fast at colonizing, but you either have to pour it into your bags or jars or pour it through a sterilized strainer to prevent clogging a needle. Pouring it into jars is messy, inconsistent and it adds an extra risk of contams. Pouring it through a strainer to get it through a 16 gauge needle isn’t much better.
So I dreamed of making a blender jar with a built in strainer so I can blenderize some spawn and suck it up directly from the jar with no pouring and no clogs.
This is what I came up with. I drilled the glass under water with a diamond bit and filled it hi temp silicone.
As long as the gasket doesn’t melt in the PC I expect it to work swimmingly.
I honestly don’t know why more people don’t use blender slurry , besides the above issues, it’s still unbelievably fast. It’s so fast that even if there’s a tiny bit of contams the myc will eat it for lunch and keep on growing.
I’ve seen quart jars finish in 4-5 days with this method. Not having to pour it or deal with clogged needles will be a game changer.

Thats a big PC! I have the ability to do 17qts but that is across two PCs. I plan to sell the smaller of the two. Are the All American PCs induction compatible?

I’m so happy I bought an All American 931 back when they only cost $180. It seemed like a lot at the time but it’s one of my most prized possessions and it’s lasted through all sorts of personal life upheavals and moves from one place to another.
Possibly the most durable and useful tools I ever bought.

Hey I found another slurry fan!
Do you pour it or use a syringe? I just posted a pic of my new solution to the problem of clogged needles with grain spawn slurry.
I think it’s going to revolutionize my cultivation process.
Back in the Stone Age I used to make blender slurry from brf cakes and I could turn one cake into a hundred in a matter of 4-5 days. Just out of curiosity I did some rough math and the rate of expansion is one to one million in 15 days.
5 days to 100, 10 days to 10,000, 15 days to one million.
If only I could produce a million bags of grain in two weeks.

Should I get an All American 930…941…one of their electric autoclaves…or an induction Presto 23-quart?

I’m really on the fence right now. I already have a standard 23-quart Presto, so I don’t know if I really need another pressure canner. It would help if I wanted to cycle multiple batches. But in any case, I would likely need an additional separate heat source.

I also wish I had gotten one much longer ago when everything was less expensive. Still pretty expensive then, honestly.

The Prestos are a lot cheaper. We paid $700 for our 941 AA right after the great covid lie started. Even now they are over $600. We also have 3 prestos and 2 smaller AA's because we home can a lot of fish and meats. IMO, if you want to PC a bunch of jars at once, maybe consider the 941, or get another Presto and run 2 at once. I canned salmon the other day and got 27 pint jars in one cook with the 941. Cut my canning time in half.

I love my induction Presto. Being able to just set the timer and not have to babysit the thing once it's up to pressure is awesome.

    Not sure if you're talking to me, but I'll respond anyways. So far the contraption has only been used for agar plates so syringes work just fine. You're right though, jars colonize well within a week. Got the inspiration from eatyualive. Wish he was still active.

I never done grain slurries. Infact I just done 20 brf jars.
About to cook up some agar to test cultures here in 30 minutes or so.

Post this in action I'm always down to learn.

Hopefully Eatyualive is still kicking. I've always enjoyed his post. We both picked this up years ago from TvCasualty and Eats rocked it the fuck out!

I bought myself some fly traps. And mouse traps. The mouse trap (about A4 size) is catching flies as well. Actually more than the other traps haha. Also it traps flies when waving with it to the flies. Nice.

I do feel a bit like an evil monster when I see a fly on it. So, I do try to take it out of it's misery. Feeling a bit bad about that as well actually. Anyways, less flies in the boxes!

Any time I feel bad about killing pest species in my space I just take a moment to think about all the illnesses we're not dying from anymore and I feel better about it. I do prefer snap traps though for rodents. And the salt shotgun for flies. That has the bonus of being fun as hell as well as immediate

What are the experiences with the salt in the house with the saltgun? When they get on RVS for example, or on the floor? Do they cause rust and or scratches? And anyone using something else like sand?

For years I've wanted to buy such a gun already, but have a doubt regarding rust and scratches. Neglectable?

Each shot is such a tiny amount of salt that I have never noticed any after using it. To be fair, it is very sandy were I live so there is a constant layer of sand and dust everywhere, so the salt might just be better disguised here.

I am stumped about RVS, though. When I google it I got a bunch of rec vehicle dealers near by. lol

No rust or scratches on any hard surfaces or painted walls. But they will leave and angry red welp on bare skin. oops. Doesn't break the skin of an apple, or human. Don't aim at anything that you don't intend to shoot, though, please. I have a whole history of having to see for myself, though. And how can you be sure if you don't repeat the experiment.

My spouse is perpetually shaking her head in disapproval for some inexplicable reason.
