I do have some internal policies regarding what they get used for, e.g., the "first" transfer of any new growth- reviving an old plate, taking a plin, streaking spores, etc., will typically happen on a glass petri, and later transfers and storage/let-sit-and-wait-for-plins plates will typically be pp5. Just because I want to keep the glass in circulation. And because old crusty dried-out agar is way harder to clean from the glass.

But yeah, really, it just happens to be what I have on-hand. I bought and modified all these pp5 containers almost a decade ago, and they're still going strong. Then my friend gave me a bunch of old Pyrex petris from a University lab, and I finally dug them out and realized they were the shit. I don't need any more agar containers than what's in my current collection. In fact, having access to more would be a bit of a disaster.

I've also started using the pp5 containers to make little mini-grain-masters.

I'm with you, though any new vessels I ever end up buying will probably be borosilicate glass because now I'm feeling all spoiled and bougie and shit.

BUT- I think we need a better/more accurate term than "no-pour."

I've been going with "pre-pour", but even that doesn't fully capture the utterly no-stress, low-risk nature of the process. It's the one cultivation task I can complete with like two functioning brain cells and a bare minimum of motor skills, and throwing my plates in the Instant Pot means I don't even have to keep track of time or anything. Just do something every time I walk past the stove and counter, and there's something to be done. Doesn't matter if my agar pot boils down and I have to add water. Doesn't matter if the sink is filled with dirty dishes and fruit flies. Cops could raid my house, and would probably just think I was making Jell-O. Etc.

then your agar mix is already "poured" into your "plates/dishes" of choice before being sterilized. (PRE)

as opposed to sterilizing your agar mix and your dishes separately then pouring your plates after sterilizing. (POST)

so it's really only distinguishing if you sterilize your agar mix in your dishes or separately.
