For anyone that loves cling wrap but hates the difficulty and safety concerns of cutting through the roll, I have your solution. The PVC Pipe cutter. It cuts through the roll and leaves a smooth clean cut. It's easy, it's safe, relativly inexpensive and you get a clean cut edge.

A sharp ratchet lopper does the trick as well if you put a piece of cardboard between the roll and the serrated side.

Not using much cling anymore since I swapped lab petri dishes for condiment no pours but I still use it for media bottles to keep the neck clean. What can I say....I like cheap. Especially for one use only applications.

Team condiment cup would like to be recognized for both their effectiveness and overall cheapassery.

Imma officially be a fence sitter in this war. Parafilm is much more fun and satisfying to work with, but also more costly and tedious. Clingwrap is cheap af and a very easy to work with but is boring as a ham sandwich. I'm gonna play both sides, I can't lose

I don't like either. And here I will say my peace.
Parafilm - Useless wax sheet you need to pull off - Wrapping a dish with Parafilm and it ripping because you pulled just a little too long launching the newly placed wedge - Expensive
Clingwrap - Feel the need to wrap the plate 3X as much - The bond between the Clingwrap isn't as strong and starts to unravel - Have to use a special tool to cut the tubes into useable sized rolls
Bonus: Micropore tape - Cmon now...
With all that said . . . I choose Parafilm. Probably because I am more used to working with it. I would GLADLY give it up if someone can recommend me the best brand of Clingwrap.

My hands just clinched and groaned thinking of unwrapping parafilm fourteen-bazillion times. The struggle to get that FUCKING BACKING off is real! NOPE! NO MORE. I wonder how well my rolls of parafilm burn or what other uses I can find for them...but in all seriousness I just can't fucking work with parafilm. I don't care how proper it is -- I've done it the right way, the wrong way, and the IDGAF way -- cling is king. It's quick. It's easy. It's cheap. My hands thank me. It doesn't harsh my mellow. I can wrap one plate, two plates, ten plates.... it doesn't SNAP. (HOW FUCKING USEFUL IS A WRAPPING THAT SNAPS LIKE THAT -- WHY -- WHY -- *okay short break for the history of parafilm*:

In agriculture, as a protective layer on the stems of freshly cut produce such as bananas to extend their shelf life.
In art, as a non-adhesive masking material during airbrushing to protect the finish.
In entomology, as a membrane to feed hematophagous insects such as mosquitoes and bedbugs.
And in medical diagnostics, as a low-cost way to produce point-of-care diagnostics in developing countries where expensive equipment and tests are not accessible.

I've used parafilm before. I'll probably never use it again unless I have to go back to college and they make me. No. Cling forever.
Just my 2cents.

I don't use any kind of film at the moment. HG plates, jars, condiment cups.
They're both perfectly reasonable to use, so why hate on either?

well first of all I only wrap just over once around. bod taught me to go twice but I stopped doing that years ago with zero negative impact.
I have never had an issue with it starting to unravel. In fact it's quite the opposite sometimes I can't find the end to unwrap.
Maybe it works better in dry climate? I'm not sure but I hope everyone realizes I only posted this as an opportunity to talk shit to each other and have a little fun. I am in full support of whatever works best for everyone. To be honest, even electrical tape I feel like is a pretty solid idea. It's just expensive and seems like a waste of electrical tape.
I got my pipe cutter on Amazon I think for like $12 by the way. For nine previous years I was using a very sharp bread knife which also works fine. At my old house we had a bandsaw and that was brilliant.
My favorite is clingwrap "press & seal" ™️ I do emplore you to try it. In my experience some people just sort of suck at wrapping. It won't adhere correctly if there isn't some tension on it. most people hold the roll wrong. Yes there's a way to do it and away not to do it. Unlike toilet paper, the direction matters. Ive done a lot of plumbing and applying teflan tape is identical.
I have heard pvc grafting tape works great and I will be honest and admit that I have been tempted to do this.
parafilm is great don't get me wrong. It's just too slow and way too expensive at my volume.
Heres the way to wrap. I hereby issue an open challenge to anyone who can wrap faster than I can with any method they want. Willing to put money it. I made this gif wrapping twice around which i no longer do. I think I can wrap ten plates faster than anyone using any other method.

I haven't done all that much wrapping period, but what I hated about clingwrap is that the difference between stretching and breaking is really small.
I watched a video where a guy was testing out the "polyfilm" from Microppose. It looks like clingwrap, but it stretches a lot more. Less than parafilm, but more than clingwrap. I might get a roll when I finally order some PP petris from them.

nice gif (pronounced like the g in garage)
If you live in a dry place, be warned that pvc grafting tape has a short shelf life. Especially once it is wrapped on a plate. The tape eventually cracks on all of my old plates kept for pins. Never have that problem with clingwrap. I have found years old cling wrapped plates that still had condensation. Not so with grafting tape.
Never used REAL parafilm, though. So can't get too shirty about it.
