Well, I've received $500 worth of brand new high quality audio equipment for a minimal amount of work, and so have several friends who signed up under me. So, to anyone who gets an iPod from this community... they have contributed by allowing that member to listen to mp3 music away from the computer. :-P

Anyway, I don't see a problem with one trading for a signup. Afterall, we are allowed to trade spore syringes and mycobags, as long as we don't sell them. We can advertise our own wares in a trade situation.

I don't see a problem with people putting it in their sigs, as this doesn't annoy anyone any more than a big ass image, or an ugly photograph, and does not take away from paid advertiser traffic.

I do see a problem with someone spamming the board, or via unsolicited PM's, as this does annoy people.

Geo brought some info to light, and we're discussing. I guess we'll look at the situation, and if it doesn't get too out of hand, then it might be ok. No "official" decision yet, though.

I'm just deeply suspicious of all marketing and promotional activities -- it comes with the territory. I bought a 12-pack of Coca-Cola? the other day, and it said that there might be a GPS device located in one of the cans, and that if I opened it, that the GPS device would transmit my location to them, and they'd show up on my property with a brand new SUV for me, and television cameras to document this wonderful event! :shocked:

Naturally, I very carefully took the unopened 12-pack to the back of the property, and propped it up in front of a mound of dirt, where I quickly and painlessly dispatched the device with several shotgun blasts. Later that night, under the light of a full moon, I very carefully buried the remains in a pit with activated-charcoal to render it harmless...

Yes, but I did not use Reynolds Wrap?, as Alcoa Inc. is part of the military industrial complex. I have a cache of pre-World War II actual tin foil, that I bought at an estate auction in Elko, Nevada, some years ago, and I use that for all my government mind-ray shielding purposes. You can't be too careful, you know. :wink:

Many of you may have noticed a lot of our members reacting to a marketing scheme involving the giveaway of free Ipods.  This first originated here through Eightba||'s OTD thread: My free iPod just arrived. 

Since then, many people have started to SPAM their referral link in their signitures and in other person's threads, and in some cases creating additional new threads about the proposal.  This is not acceptible, and we were on the verge of disallowing the entire thing alltogether.  However, a compromise has been reached to allow people to continue to abuse Gratis Networks for their iPods (:evil:) while also cutting down on the spamtastic goings on around here (:grin:).

As such, we are asking everyone to be on the lookout for:
  • Any user advertising their referral link in their sig, this is not allowed.  A user may link to Eightba||'s thread only.
  • Any user advertising their referral link in any thread.
  • Any new threads about the iPod scheme.

If you notice any of the above, please contact an administration such that we may remedy the situation.  We want to allow people to score some free iPods, but we also don't want to let our community fall victim to huge multi-level marketing schemes.  At this point, if we can confine this iPod thing to one thread, people who choose to may participate, and those who don't want to won't be bombarded with it at every turn (at least, that is our hope). :tongue2:

So just keep an eye out is all we're asking.  Anything that seems to be a little too SPAMmy.. just give us a holler.  Spanks! :heart:

my prediction- gratis will be through giving away ipods very soon, all new IPOD 'winners' will be told they are on a waiting list, and those names will be harvested and sold to every direct mail marketer in the country.
