can anyone explain exactly how the sterilizing in a pot works, please? I cant find it anywhere, it seems like everybody has a pressure cooker except me and a few other guys :o).

Hmmm okay. Yes I used a cloth on the bottom of the pot. Next time I think I might risk stacking and leave it cooking for longer than usual, and at the highest temp I can without things getting out of hand.

watch out for the higher temps & the faster rate of water evaporation,... which happens in a boiling pot (even covered). You have to find some happy medium btw filling the pot w/ too much water, and risk water splashing into the bottom row of jars... and too little which will defeat the purpose of boiling and can cook/crack your jars. i have not found that medium :) but use several stove burners & several pots at the same time instead.
