You can do a couple of things. Rinse out with soapy water, then with clean water (get them as clean as possible with soap/water). Then use a 50% Water 50% Bleach solution (this is pretty strong) and fill your jars up with this solution. Cover and shake vigorously. Shake the jars a couple of times over the next 24 hours. After that you can just rinse them (NOTE: The jars MAY become "cloudy" from the bleach, but they're sterile) as best as you can and re-use. "Rinse and reuse".OR You could clean them with soapy water as best as you can and place them in a Pressure Cooker/Boil them for 20 minutes. This should be enough to sterilize the jar for re-use. Hope that helped.

after birthing the contents of the jar, just wash out the jar with soap and water, and dry. You're going to sterilize it with the substrate in it; next batch anyway. . Just make sure all the soap is rinsed away before drying.

I just wash it out with soap and water. As long as you rinse it well and let it air dry it should be fine. There is no need to sterilize it or bleach it... it will be sterilized later.. but. it might be a good idea to sterilize a jar before you throw away your contiminated's. this will prevent you from accidentally reinfecting your other jars. =)------------------ To see the light is not enough.. brainnoise

You guys make me feel like a loser. If I have a jar that just colonized, whether it's a pf or a qt birdseed jar, I don't even wash the damn thing. Usually there are little flecks of seed or mycelium, I just add new substrate on top. If the jar is 'fungus friendly' why mess with it. Now contaminated jars, that's a whole other story.
