This free IPODS spam shit.

Its getting out of hand. Its in every tons of peoples sigs, no one has received one except eightball, the promoter of the pyramid scheme, and its invading other threads. People are now just spamming their links randomly into non related threads begging for referrals.

Please do something about this ungodly annoyance. If I want spam I'l reopen my hotmail account.

Maybe I should post my daily spam here so everyone can enjoy a larger penis, a free cruise, and nudes of some celebs.

Correction. I have received an IPOD too. Infact, I have a second one on the way. I have also received free condoms from the same company (Gratis Networks) at www.freecondoms.com .

hmm...if he was trying to stop misinformation, why was he spreading misinformation? everything he said was wrong.

Sure, maybe a few 'pyramid schemes' were scams... but this particular one is verified by several to be true. This company is 100% legit. People really should do research before speaking.

Perhaps you did not do it correctly. You don't 'sign' up for free condoms. You complete an offer for them. I received them in a large envelope along with a bumper sticker and a flyer.

Last I remember, there were rules about advertising on here. Regardless of if someone is posting a link or not, the wy this works is advertising referrals.

Alright, that is a valid point. I'll agree with that. If it does get out of hand...then it's bad. Personally, I don't read OTD and I wasn't aware of the problem. I posted a trade request, basically saying I would send people prints and syringes and things of that nature, in exchange for a signup.

Thanks for not assuming it's a scam just because it is similar to things which may have been a scam, or because you have not personally experienced it. I wish there were more people in this world who would think like that.

The Shroomery shouldn't be used by, or made accessible to, any marketing or promotional organizations that employ any form of stealth, guerilla, viral, or pyramidal marketing methodologies.

Jesus, isn't the internet full of enough ads, spam, and pitches already? It's getting to the point where you don't know if your having a friendly conversation with someone in a forum, or being pitched a product or brand by someone getting paid or compensated on some level.

I haven't paid real close attention to this recent iPod business, but I think mnd may have hit the nail on the head. I do know, that it's been a recent source of drama and chaos...

It's not exactly an advertisment, papaver. The company makes money by getting a person to sign up (they get a referral fee). The users get something by getting 5 users to sign up... they get an ipod. The only person who is truly advertising is the user who posts the link. The company (Gratis Networks) isn't advertising a service per-se, they list a bunch of companies which will give them a referral fee. When you say advertisment, I would think of popups, or banners, etc. It's not like that. Well, just take a look for yourself www.freeipods.com .

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then it's probably some form of multi-level viral marketing, and not something I'd dirty my hands with. I don't need an iPod that badly. I also don't refer friends to Columbia House, or hold Tupperware parties, either, but to each his own...

However, I am a little concerned by the amount of drama this issue is causing, and also by the idea that the Shroomery is being turned into some sort of marketing arm for the good people at Gratis Networks, so that they can harvest our member-base. They don't contribute to this community, and I'm not sure we would accept paid advertising from them anyway...
