Re: Regime change in Iran [Re: GenesisCorrupted] * 2

I always support overthrowing dictatorships just in principal, but inevitably they just get replaced by another dictator.

All of the times in my life that I've seen a dictatorship overthrown, it's been immediately replaced by something as bad or worse. There was only one exception to that rule that I've ever seen, which is definitely not a good track record. I am absolutely certain the Iranian government would be replaced by something as bad or worse.

But fuck it anyway, I still support overthrowing it because fuck dictators. It also feels good emotionally to see those smug little bastards (dictators) get theirs. They're always so fucking confident and smug, it always feels good to see them fall.

If it was up to me, I'd support just perpetually overthrowing every single dictator who comes to power just on principal, because fuck em, they deserve it. It wouldn't help or make the world a better place, but I'd still feel good about it.

I would say after overthrowing Gaddafi. Things have been better for the people who overthrew them.
Libya is not a fantastic place, but it is better off not having that piece of shit there.

People should strive for democracy when they get the chance.

Your stance is that because it doesn't work very often they shouldn't try? Boy that is so defeatist and lame.

People should fight for something better. That's how progress gets done.
They're never gonna get anything not doing anything.
I would say Singapore is another good example.

Right, and same goes for me too.  Who likes living on Earth knowing that their fellow man are being crushed under tyranny? With so many suffering fates we can hardly even relate to in many cases? It can be difficult though, as the amount of times military intervention goes wrong in unforeseen ways has helped to setup some of the very worst. e.g. see N. Korea and the Kim family.

And that’s just the easiest example, the implications of military action like the  US’s today, I fear isn’t something that can be considered casual “bomb and done”.  These things tend to drag on and on, and they drag lives along with it the whole entire way.  Anyway, it’s beyond my purview to say much more on the matter.

People that think things never change so they don't even try are losers.

People that think that just because somethings unlikely means that they should just give up, are cowards.

People thinking that someone supporting democracy is licking a boot. Hates democracy.
Prove me wrong.

Shows what you know.  We could have overthrow Iran at anytime. We sent 3 Cia agents to overthrow the democratic elected government before.

Usa needs a boogeyman in every region to proxy trade and proxy war. Money is absolute just remember that.

Regime change isn’t so easy.

How long did it take for Japan to change, grow, build, and evolve?  The amount of support that went into that tiny island(s) nation was an immense undertaking - and the US is still active there somewhat even today.  Who knows with Iran, though I hope to god this isn’t another FUBAR’d MiddleEast Fumble.  Idk, but I know I’ll be making some changes following the news about the bombings.  What can anyone even say at this point, hope it goes well?  Hope so.

Why would you think Americana fights for democracy,  we don't care. Don't fall for the Wilson lie. We only support profit. Banana republic is a term because what we did many times to democratic run nations, overthrowing them for better prices.

Supporting bloodthirsty warmongers is not the way to cause 'regime change'. Israel has been perpetually at war with most of their neighbors, and now start an offensive war with Iran - that is not 'rescuing the people', that is sieging the people. We learned this with the Iraq war, and the Afghanistan war. Afghanistan fell to the Taliban almost immediately after we left - they were not 'liberated'. And the western government in Iraq is basically not in power, either.

One time I would have thought overthrowing nations was the easiest way to make things better. But look at the mass death and oppression the Arab spring left.

A takeover by the Iranian military (biggest in the Middle East) is the only regime change that doesn't sound like fantasy. They have a lot of nationalist sentiment more than allegiance to the theocracy.

Do you have a point?
The regime in Iran is evil and I think the Iranian people should rise up against it. This is an excellent opportunity. That's my point I don't know what the fuck you're on about.
This has nothing to do with communism. Which is an utterly shit system. Go to that thread if you wanna talk about it.

I don't support bombing anything. I support regime change. Seems like your trying to project what you want so you can get into an argument with me when that's not what I think.

Your 'excellent opportunity for regime change' is coming in the form of US bombs falling on Iran - and just like every other time the US has delivered 'freedom' to western Asia with bombs, this situation will result in favourable conditions for US war profits at the cost of the Iranian public.

I brought up your thread on communism to highlight where your priorities lie in taking the long shot: US bombs in the middle east finally resulting in democracy instead of the absolute shit show that has resulted every other time in the past - that's apparently the best hope for a revolution that you can envision

I would be surprised if Iran did anything substantial. At this point, the populace and the government is used to getting bitch slapped around. If the Ayatollah really wants to be a martyr, then launch your 90s tech at the US.

Over twenty years ago nuclear scientists where offed en masse.Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a power player in Iran's nuclear program. Qasem Soleimani, about 6 years ago.

Colonel Khodayee to Ayatollah  Soleimani..... Ismail Haniyeh (Hamas) offed in Tehran  during the inauguration of the Irain president. They even tried to have a memeoiral service for Soleimani....and we're bombed.

was 9/11 a missed opportunity for the left to rise up and claim power from the decades shit middle east policy?

or did we 'unify' against a perceived extensional threat? while our leaders gladly lead a generation to the VA hospitals?

i dont think iran will do much of anything either but i highly doubt this is going to led to the current dictatorship being toppled. thats fantastically thinking.

That doesn't preclude escalation - even if the US operation was one-and-done, it's hard to envision the Israeli state stopping it's bombing campaign; which has begun openly claiming regime change as a goal. Iran may not have nukes, but they certainly possess an economic nuke in the form of sabotaging shipping in the Strait of Hormuz - even if Iran lacks the ability to hit back directly and substantially, where's the off-ramp?
