I can definitely get it out in one piece. I was thinking a 2 gal ziploca few days ago, but thought I'd see how things went. Apparently they're going the same as they were.

This was 4 days ago:

Ziplocs never seem to be great fruiting environments for me, so I was hesitant. I think I have nothing to lose and everything to gain at this point.

@Lew the bottom pins are all being re-absorbed like you described earlier.

I have a notion to take Tao's advice...

I've long been wowed by Tao's cake work. Here's my hesitation:

  • I've not had much experience with cakes or giving them the right environment.

  • I've been concerned that once I pop it out then I won't provide the pins with a good environment and they'll stall.

  • I'm not sure I have a proper sized tub for the cake, whether it be a water tub or coir humidity chamber. If I can find one I'll be much more likely to consider it.

  • New pins are forming on top every day. And a clone candidate would be tits.

  • I think the ideal window of opportunity will soon pass so I'll need to decide soon.

Let me know your thoughts anybody and everybody

I'm gonna sleep on it.

Yeah. If they get too big I feel like I'll damage them getting them out,

Well you want to maximize surface fruiting area...
And it's usually a trade off with depth...

You've got plenty of both.

Edit:

I don't recommend Ziplock tho, even with in a container...they don't root them selves very deep...

I have 4 pint jars of semperviva uncle ben's brown rice spawn and I was wondering what y'all think I should do, all I have is coir at the moment and I'm considering just casing the top of the jars with coir and trying to fruit with a ziploc bag with a few holes in it elastic banded over it to maintain humidity, or should I just say fuck it and just do 50/50 in 6qt tubs? My thought process is that the jars would be less maintenance and take less time to consolidate, perhaps larger fruits due to the abundance of grain and smaller surface area? They aren't widemouth jars so unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to get the cake out without breaking the jar.

I have grown a few tubs of ochra & attempted azurescens before however the azures contaminated after a week or so on chips. Haven't grown in a while though these syringes were from late last year. The jars are coming up on 80% for the most part so I'm just scrambling as to planning my next move. Thanks!

Pre-cooked?

Personally I'd tub it. Just coir is fine.

Let them consolidate a week or two.

nono not pre cooked it's just a big ass bag of long grain brown rice like from the grocery store, I also cook with it. And sounds good I read above what you were saying and I'm thinking the tubs would be the best now. I tried them in 27qts last year and 3 tubs all got mycogone, assuming it's because I left them too wet after casing.

Best to just say.... long grain brown rice.

There's certin prejudices around here against UB.

Sub should be prepared on the dry side (under Field capcty).

And wait till pins are 0.5 inch or so to start misting.  Minimizing evaporative-loss though... evaporation is good, but should be recycled ♻️
