I know this may be an unanswerable question, but what strain of cubes is considered easy to grow, colonizes fast, and is more potent than average?

I'm just curious about off the cuff opinions.

My off-the-cuff and somewhat smartass opinion would be that it's the one you take and test clones from.

Spore sources from culture lines that have been more "worked on," for lack of a better term, tend to have a narrower starting variability than full-on wildtype spores. Practically speaking, that means you'll have more work to do to narrow down the genetics from more wild sources, but also more opportunities to develop/discover something new.

I don't actually think of PE as being stronger than other cubes, but rather, its potency from multispore is more comparable to a narrowed-down clone line. I find it preferable to do my own genetics work, and avoid working with that finicky-ass styrofoam-blob-pumping, giant-dick-looking variety.

That said, I confess that I haven't really bothered to test individual lines for potency in years.

I think a lot of what happens is that individual cultivators end up selecting for their conditions. Everything from agar recipes to transfer techniques to substrate selection. And, of course, ambient temperatures, etc. So then my cultures do best in my setup, your cultures do best in yours, etc.

My off-the-cuff name-drop would be that I've been digging my Hillbilly lines lately.

I confess that I ride bike like 160 - 200 km a week. And if we have a 2000 km car drive to a festival, that's like, something we have to recover from for a week.

I confess that I inoculated 4 pf jars with untested LC from a new sponsor and it was my first inoculation.

I made the jars in anticipation a day before the order arrived so the moment it came in I could inoculate. Impatience is not an excuse for this hobby or these life forms, but my Agar ingredients didn't land until today, T+7 days since inoculation.

My punishment is ignorance and for that I will make Agar plates tomorrow.

The growth has turned out to be positive so far and for that I am extremely thankful. The growth was almost immediate and I did several days of researching contamination information using the search function. I'm still not completely convinced it's 100% clean because I've learned LC is extremely sketchy, so until those jars are completely consolidated there will still be an amount of anxiety; another level of punishment all in it itself.

All the transfers I made about a week ago are contaminated. My plates had lids gummed on with agar, water between plates in the stack, making them difficult to get off the top of the stack. I seriously fucked up trying to no pour petris. There was a ton of condensation too, and idk what is weird myc from that or contamination...probably a mixture of both. It's all going in the trash and I'm done with cult for the night.

Have a reliable plan in place if you pre pour petris. I know it can be done, but I just treated them like my HGs and absolutely shit the bed. If anyone needs me, I'll be sweatin it up in COD just to feel like I'm good at something. 🤣🤣

I confess. I’m a lazy ass cultivator. While successful I don’t ever do agar work myself or make my own LC or syringes. All of my shit comes from a good friend that does the work. We have a system worked out. I do all of the grain prep and make all of the jars/bags he does the lab work. Well the other day I decided I wanted to start doing some clone work and ordered agar dishes from amazon (because I’m lazy).

They arrived last night and are packaged in a STEM science kit for kids. My daughter got super excited thinking I got her a new science project. Sadly it was for me. Then she proceeded to tell me “daddy you can’t grow bacteria, we will all die” bacteria kills people”!!!!

So today I’m making my first SAB and trying my luck at some cloning and I’m also going to make up a spore syringe from a PE print I managed to get last year from a monster.  Hopefully something works!

Good project to do with the kids. Let them cough or sneeze onto one of your dishes. Or swab a cheek and streak. Seal it up and you can both have fun watching what grows from their germs.

That’s a great idea! Getting them to brush twice a day is literally like pulling teeth sometimes!

i thought my old roommate that way.  i said wash your hands and then just had him poke his finger on a plate and close it and seal it. 

it was mostly mildew i think.  maybe some penicillium
