americans must really stop saying this to europeans, someone just did it AGAIN to me, ive heard it over and over again. no there was not a single american where i live under ww2, the people who came here to our rescue was the RUSSIANS, yeah thats right, the russian was one of the countries that REALLY made sacrifices in this war, russian warprisoners buildet most of the roads here in norway when the germans was here. . It was a world war, a world war is diffrent from other wars in many ways. That ONE nation today goes around and claims that they win the war is to send a fuck you to all who fought for their country in europe and elsewhere. americans was here and there in europe. but it was not the reason the world endet.

We fought the Japanese while fighting the Germans..Maybe we didnt do much in Norwy but we did save a lot of countrys from being overrunn
Ask the Chinease or the English people who helped them out the most..

like i said it was a world war, and EVERY country did their part.
there is no question in europe who did this and who did that here under the world war II its only america who does that, i know usa did alot but everyone did something.

People are morons. They bag on the french for surrendering "so easily". People here in america were thousands of miles removed from any kind of frontline. Paris WAS the front line. Oh and remember that little thing called world war one? Well the french lost over a million troops fighting back the german invasion then, so they were a bit short on man power in round 2.

yeah i know about ww1 and i know about the huge losses of france. but americans was in france they was not here, thats why i said i could understand that but i agree with you there .

thats another thing, americans have never been under attack by a foreign nation so that is also why i think europe doesnt yell out the word hero so much as they do in usa. americans like heroes, but europe has been involved in much worse stuff than america has when we look in the history, i think we might remember our history better than americans, usa have done alot of insane stuff,  but americans are originaly europeans so usa is just another part of europeans more or less insane history. but americans have forgot someting and now when terrorist attacks them they go all nuts and think its the worst thing that has ever happened and wants to make a new world order out of it, that is whats insane, that is a new ideology to the world, and the world doesnt agree.

400,000 American died in WW2. Thats Really a scarifice in my book. Especially when we wern't under direct attack from the Germans.

I'm not trying to be negative to your post at all Shriek. If anyone says America won the war there arogant. We did help win the war with the aid of the rest of the Allied forces.

Soviet Union 20,000,000 casualties civilian and military
China 3,000,000- 15,000,000. The latter number is more likely.
Germany 4,500,000 including 1,000,000 civilians.
Japan 2,000,000 casualties.
Bengal 1,500,000 died of war-related famine in 1943 in Bengal
Yugoslavia 1,300,000 including 1,000,000 civilians
Italy 500,000 casualties.
France 500,000 casualties half of them civilians.
Britain less than 500,000 but with 120,000 additional from the Empire.
United States less than 300,000 died; additional hundred thousands died in industry
Hungary, Poland, Rom 3-400,000 losses in each army of Hungary, Poland and Romania.
East & CentralEurope 4,300,000 to 5,800,000 Jews died as well as a similar number of slaws.

yeah exactly, that is my point chinacat, we all made sacrifices that is why we are careful to yell heroes here because it happened in our own backyard. there are mass graves of russians near where i live. i just want to remind americans on this, its not that we are ungrateful to america at all.

I don't know what you consider alot. The Japanese killed close to 3000 of our people in a couple hours at Pearl Harbor. Over a hundred thousand more died fighting them in the Pacific theater which kept them from being able to help the Nazis conquer the world.

yes but please dont take my sometimes not well put poor choise of english like that, i dont mean to say that usa didnt have had losses and that they werent bad, of course, in my book one murder is one too many.

but when you sit here in europe and you get served all american hero movies year after year you get tired of hearing it

I think we would have won the war regardles of america. It would have taken alot longer but germany was running out of recources fast and would have crumbeled under its own weight soon enough.

Not that i am not greateful for the heroic sacrifice the american troops in europe made.

Thats just our hollywood culture. Were under attack now and everybody wants to be a hero. After 9/11 everyone from cops to firefighters are considered heros.
I remember a couple months after 9/11 the city I was in had a hero's parade for their firefighter. Yet not one of them had anything to do with 9/11. It made me sick.
Not that firefighters are not brave, but after 9/11 we seam to be on a hero high.

I think that's all that Americans want to hear for the most part. That the sacrifices made by our troops will not be forgotten. Most people are not trying to rub it in anyones face. Except for the French who have no regard for those who died on their own soil.

Really? It seams that the only country that was holding them off was the English and their efforts were failing fast as London was reduced to rumble. Russia was trying, but I think they would have collasped.

Who knows. The point is knowbody knows how it would have turned out. Especially if the Japanese wouldn't have been stopped.

The point is we ALL came together.

It's obvious that some countrys suffered more then others, but I think we all payed a great price.

As for the French giving up from my studys that not true. Faced with the german invasion they had little chance.
