Bacteria in grain jars, what to expect in upcoming 7 monotub grow
    #28913095 -

Goodmorning my friends, I hope everyone is having a good day. Well it's almost time to spawn to bulk and of course I have really been looking forward to this.  I posted a few picks of my grain jars that are almost fully colonized and one of my fellow members said it looked like I have some bacteria.  That bothered me of course. I have been doing everything within my means to keep sterile protocol.  I unfortunately do not  have a flow hood or sab, my future purchases.

So when I was told it looked like I have bacteria, it really bothered me.  On my first grow I spawned to bulk. 3 monotubs and 2 of them developed trichoderma and ruined the 2 monotubs,  it crushed me.  My 3rd monotub continued on and  fruited,  not the best yield but atleast I did  yield some cubes.

I am hoping for much better luck this time!

So after being told it looks like I have bacteria in some of my grain jars, it crushed me again,  the member did say it didn't look too bad and said it shouldn't affect my fruiting of my monotubs!! I really hope it doesn't ruin this upcoming grow. You  know  I  have some money tied up in everything I needed for this grow. It will be  a 7 monotub grow, 70lbs of CVG, 7 live culture syringes,  it just gets kind  of expensive especially, since I am ona fixed income from my disability.  I have to have a hobby and I have always loved watching things grow. I.E. vegetable gardens,  cannabis which I am pretty good at,  but I can't do a 420 grow right now due to  living arrangements.  Since I got paralyzed last June,  knees down,  both legs,  I have to use a walker,  but atleast I am not dead! Now  I have cancer, an embrynal tumor. 3 kinds of cancer in the 1 tumor, a malignant tumor,  I am having radiation and  chemo.  Anyways.

So what are you guys thoughts on my grain jars that apparently have bacteria? What do I need to know about it, what can be done about it.

I will be spawning to bulk in a week,  what do I need to do about  spawning to bulk with bacteria? Please don't tell me my 7 monotubs are doomed!! Please give me some advice on what to expect after  spawning to bulk  and what I need to do

I  posted some pics of my jars plates ect. I  will post close ups later today.

Thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to give me advice.

Just know that each and every one of you are very appreciated,

Thank you,

wc

I am go

Until you start making everything yourself you will unfortunately be at the mercy of whomever you buy your pre-made items from.

You should create the gauranteee you desire.

If you plan to purchase an SAB from a mycology website, don't, it's much cheaper to make one. All you need is a large clear tote, my understanding is that in the US they can be found at around 15 USD. You just have to make 2 arm holes in it and you'll have a working SAB. Open air work is not recommended, especially with grain.

Your spawn is already compromised so if you think that you can do some magic and still be certain that it will work, that's just not happening.

If you want to save resources, I wouldn't try to fruit all these bacterial jars. They could give you 1-2 decent flushes, but they're just as likely to stall and grow mold before that happens, so I wouldn't roll the dice and commit so much unless you can take the potential loss without being financially burdened.

I would start over with new jars after making an SAB and making sure that your inoculant is clean. If you are set on trying to get some results out of what you have, you could try to make 1-2 shoeboxes with the jars that look the least affected at a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio at most, 1 jar per shoebox, and maybe top fruit the rest of them by just covering them in a little bit of coir and putting them in ziplocks with air exchange holes. That will minimize the substrate you use, you still have a chance to grow something, and you won't lose too much materials if it all fails.

I don't know why but I found it rad and endearing that you used a labeler to identify your jars. That's so official, you gotta love it. Also sorry genuinely to hear about your cancer. Anything I can do to help you reach your goals let me know because I'm of the opinion people with cancer should get all their wishes granted. (My bro had pancreatic cancer in 2021).

I can't wait to get there, almost to harvesting my first ever tub! Then I'll be doing the work to get myself off that vendor dependence.

jars look bacterial af, because mycelium is too thick, uncolonised grains, and probably those jars will be hard af to break up, how do I know ? had similar jars for 4 months, while agar was looking ok appeared it had bacteria...
results? all my tubs were getting trich.

its always the spawn....

You should toss everything into the garbage, take a few days to read this over and over again, and then give it another shot.

Read it.

Reread it.

Read it again.

Read it one more time.

Don’t forget to read it.

Thanks for advice my everyone  I am taking heed to your warnings. My friend DERRAYLD along with many of you suggested I go with a shoebox size spawn to bulk considering the bacteria.  I am going to do that with Steralite 6qt containers, photo attached.

So 1qt spawn to 1qt bulk, I keep enough bulk back on each shoebox to use as a pseudo casing on each shoebox.

What is the chance I will have any fruit doing a shoebox like you all suggested?

Also do I  fill the shoebox up to the VERY TOP and take the lid off when it is fully colonized and put it in a large container for head pace during fruit

I  assume everything goes out the window doing a shoebox,  I.E. no holes in sides of shoebox box for fae, but it will get FAE when it's fully colonized and I put it in a large container

I'm going to stop here and instead of continuing to say what I am going to do,  when I really don't know what to do.

I  will ask you,  my friends to steer me in the right direction. Whether it be advice directly from you or a youtube shoebox tek to watch and follow.

I will purchase my shoebox today and spawn to bulk tomorrow.

I  would like from for you to please suggest a tek or more than one tek that  is a really good shoebox tek, that will fit my  circumstances and I  will do as it instructs me to do!!

I  would like to ask,  by doing this shoebox tek, I  will definitely save alot of bulk, and keep from wasting it, I  have 70lbs of bulk I intended using on seven 66qt monotubs. I  was going to use two 32oz grain jars and 10 lbs of bulk per 66qt monotub.

Do you think I will spawn to bulk  pray for fully colonized  shoeboxes with  no contamination and hopefully have fruit.  I assume there  will be  some  kind of road block because of bacteria according to you all. I  will be happy if some of the  shoeboxes fully colonize and fruit successfully and I harvest atleast some fruit out of 10 shoeboxes.

Again please give me your personal advice to follow tomorrow spawning to bulk my shoeboxes and advice to follow during this entire shoebox tek.

Also please recommend a YouTube video showing me exactly what I need to do during this entire shoebox tek. I have never done a shoebox and it is definitely different from a normal spawn to bulk.  For example, do I mist the shoeboxs, if so how often, just please refer a complete shoebox tek I can follow beginning to end.

Thank all of you for giving taking time out of your busy schedules to give me advice,  you are very much appreciated, just know that, even if it's something I don't want to hear.  You can see I am listening (DERRAYLD).I always get excited when it's time to spawn to bulk, even if it's just trying to recover from BACTERIA CONTAMINATION, like this situation I'm in!

I will be very very pleased if I can get any fruit this time!

Thank you,

WC

damn bro, you are doing a lot of bulk with such a bad spawn. doing same mistake I did last year....

first and foremost is clean AF culture my friend , and then slowly scale up production, dont repeat my and others mistakes.

clean culture first.

what can you do with that spawn? I would do 1:1 coir to spawn,
use bods bucket tek and stupid simple shoebox tek and spawn straight to coir, the chances that you will get fruits are low af,( at least I didnt have any fruits with such jars) I was only growing trich lol.

so by doing 1:1 coir to sub ratio you will increase your chances, also remember when you will spawn cover top layer of grain with 2-3mm layer of coir, bacterial grains are weakened and by exposing them to air they dry out and give chances to trich and other contaminants to take hold -rogerrabbit

Thanks for the information! I took your advice  1:1 Ratio  spawn to bulk  into  6qt  containers. Bacteria,  from the smell of it Yes!

Check my  other threads for pictures.

Do you think the containers  will  full colonize and Fruit?
Damn I they do and they all arr not doomed.

I did not see any green at all.

Thanks,  WC

good to hear, keep us updated.

i did same thing with couple sweet smelling jars, they recovered in 16hours after the shake, but triched out at 70% colonisation day 5.... tossed em outside....

so lesson?

YOU NEED CLEAN CULTURE. AND CLEAN GRAIN JARS.

some people say that coir is the problem, wrong method of cooking coir and etc...

thats horse BS,  I tried and put coir in monotubs, some were completely closed from air, some were in fruiting conditions, coir without grain didnt get shit, no trich, no cobweb nothing...

only after the grains are addeded, and if they have contamination it gets triched and messed up..

clean cultureeee !!!

If you haven't already purchased your ShoeBoxes I would suggest you spend a little extra and get the purple handled Sterilite shoeboxes instead. They are much easier to adjust FAE and stack better.
