You really won't need that much damp-rid as long as you are able to dry the wet mushrooms with a fan for about 12-24 hours before placing them in any type of damp-rip or dessicant chamber. Usually you'll only need enough damp-rid to barely cover the bottom of whatever tupperware container you are using. Damp-rid can go bad if it's not sealed, and some of those refill containers are just 1/2 gallon paper milk jugs that don't seal very well after they are opened, so if you get more than you need make sure to store it in a sealed container or it will turn in to a solid brick of unusable mess.

I'm using the Damprid too and going through quite a lot of it... I've got a 3 layer dry box with a fan secured on top and its using up a refill box every 2-3 days. Getting a little expensive.
I paid 3 per refill box too at Ace but I hear that Walmart has it cheaper, which is worth the trip.
In the FAQs it talks about using reuseables such as epsom salts as well. I couldn't see going through the trouble of drying the salt for so long in the oven but now I'm thinking about it!
Oh yeah, take the other poster's advice about drying with a fan for 24 hours before putting in your chamber. I have a reaised piece of screening for this too.
I've put a lot into the drying effort this year as I lost most all of them last year due to mold from poor drying technique.

There's no such thing as a stupid question,
but they're the easiest to answer!

to cyndyl:

Have you ever reused damp rid before? You can dry it out with an oven as well. I usually reuse the damp rid 3 or 4 times before I replace it with fresh damp rid. Heres what the pk tek says about it:

Desiccant can be reused and lasts indefinitely. After use, the desiccant is heated, dried and stored for future use. Store it in an air tight container so that it stays dry and ready for use. Heat the desiccant in an oven as instructed by the manufacturer. This preheating should be done before the desiccant is used because when it is purchased - it is usually somewhat damp which will thwart its function for drying air.

This sure has saved me money.
