Can you guys please tell me where you get your dessicant, I can't find it anywhere, i'm talking like a store, not off the internet, I need some ASAP! and what is it exactly used for other then drying mushrooms?? thanks..

walgreens or your local supermarket....the stuff is called DAMP RID, it should be in the section with the lysol and oxiclean and shit

Fuck dissicant and get yourself a decent dehydrator. Don't believe the hype regarding heat in regards to a dehydrator. It's true that heat will destroy the gooodies but not with the amount used in your average dehydrator used by someone with half a brain........

just disconnect the element

screw them both, i use a dorm fan on top of a rubbermaid, takes me maybe a day or at most 2. cracker dry. Then i put it in a small container with a silica gel packet or two just to keep it dry.

all three work, fans, dehydrators and dessicant. depends on the penny bank!

Go find Prestone Driveway Heat,that brand only.12.99 for 20lbs.Way cheaper then DampRid.And don't listen to anyone who bad mouths dessicant,they must not have used it right.The screen that is over the dessicant must have room for air to flow.Make sure the chamber is air tight so the same air will be dried out over and over.A fan works but if your talking bulk then a dessicant chamber gets the best results.

White rice works pretty well....I've used it a time or 2 when I didnt have a dehydrator.....

I've used laboratory grade before, and it sucks ass compared to a high powered (or even low powered) fan. A good fan takes a day max (except for huge fuckers). Desiccate takes about 2 even with the best (which gets expensive, unless you get some from chem lab  :cool:). Its also messy, need to have a sealed container....  the list of cons goes on and on....

interesting as I've always used a fan 1st then used the dessicant to get the last little itty bit out. fans are like sooo necessary IMO

For long term storage nothing beats dessicant. Sure it takes a couple days. I usually give it a week by which time they are cracker dry and can then be frozen for months with no noticeable loss of happy energy.

Damp Rid is the best. Walmart sells it usually in the cleaning supply aisle.  Invest in a tupperware bowl (BIG ONE Called "THE bowl" works perfectly) its gotta be airtight then just follow the mmgg instructions for a dryer and you're set. As the damp rid turns to water just pour it off and add more as needed.

Discovered a brand that can be re-used by heating in the oven. It seems to work slower than the disposible damp-rid but not having to buy anything does have advantages in the long run.

if ya get lucky/good enough to grow the really monster fruits then you almost have to use a fan first or risk mutilating your harvest trying to slice it up small enough to fit in the bowl.  Shame we can't keep the 95%+ water and toss the fruit away harvest would be much better that way. :smile:

Realy cause i have a dehydrator that uses heat and it cant be disabled ,you realy think i can use it and it wont loose potency, the dehydrator was only a 30 dollar one that i bought a couple years ago

with the dehydrater-just use commmon sense, if its 200 degrees in there, no, don't use it, but if its 100 it wont make a difference.

A fan is a 1 time purchase of 20 bucks, costs maybe 3 dollars a month to dry, and no mess/worries. FANS RULE, DESICCANTS DROOL!
