My take on RR's thoughts is this:

PCing kills endospores, regardless of being germinated. They just need to be hydrated.

However, since every endospore has a very very small chance of surviving the PC cycle (you know that weirder things have happened), you don't want a huge load of endospores going into your jar.  Thus, a max. of 24 hours soak time is recommended.

That's what I gather as well. I just want to see him post "the race" thing in clear and definite terms so I can have a nice fat quote.

I have jars of birdseed and grass seed that failed to colonize after inoculation... and then nothing ever grew, no contams, no myc, no anyhting, just stayed looking the same for probably 2 or 3 months before I dumped em.

From my understanding, soaking grains beforehand is to cause endospores to bloom so they're then killed off.

I'm making jars of pure hay with oysters. I went 50/50 on 2 jars in the SAB in terms of contamination. One got a black, grainy web-like thing. The other has pushed down to half the jar. I didn't soak beforehand for more than 10 minutes.

My experience as a noobie tells me that noobies are gonna dig deep to get info on something they read up on. Not all noobies think to check post dates though :shrug:

Newer post dates here can mean shortsighted people who thought they were the new thing and that the old is useless.

All that really matters is what's in the post

I think they google a question and it link to a very dead thread. Then they post with account they had forever. It is weird to see so many naco post during the week and not the weekend.
