"it is a pruple variety from the nursery"

"no effects"

This seems to be the case ... I am slowly loosing faith in this botanical. Still haven't tried it again either...

Perhaps it is like in the movie Medicine Man, the precursor chemical exists in its native environment, but absnt elsewhere like in nurseries and wal-marts.  Many poison dart frogs lose much of their toxicity when taken from the amazon and raised in terrariums and so forth.  It may be why the foliage that originated in south america has been singly active as intended.

nursery random purple variety

The real South American stuff probly isn't bunk - sounds like you had effects and I trust you not to fall for placebo highs. Still maybe there's a proper nursery variety that's active.....

A first try using a tea made from this plant was a dud...

Made a brew from 10 grams of dried leaf/stem/flowers from the locally-available "VIP" Petunia violacea, and felt NOTHING. No change from baseline at all. More details below, but my first try gave zero effects.

MATERIAL USED: My material was simply 10 grams of the above-soil parts from a plant that got dehydrated, so most of the leaves turned brown naturally before the plant was cut. Maybe you have to use no stems, only dried leaf that is harvested fresh and shade-dried. However, I would expect that if this plant was active, I would have felt *something* from 10 grams, but nothing happened.

BREW METHOD: 16 ounces of Brita-filtered water was heated to approx. 120 degrees (2 minutes in a microwave). Dried plant material was chopped in a blender and dumped into a plastic water bottle with a lid. The hot water was poured into the bottle. The bottle was capped & shaken vigorously, and the material allowed to steep for 5 minutes before solids were filtered out.

EFFECTS NOTED: No buzz, no feelings of lightness, no euphoria or drowsiness or stimulation. Nothing except a wave of nausea as the (still warm) liquid was finished (empty stomach, had no food for 4+ hours prior). Setting was outdoors, late afternoon with Heat Index near 100 degrees F. After 45 minutes and no effects, a meal was eaten. A slight all-over ache-y feeling and joint pain (one wrist) were noted for several hours after ingesting the brew, but these could be unrelated to drinking the petunia tea.

Suggestions welcomed for what-to-do-differently next time.

Good work. Too bad it was negative. is really starting to appear that the hybrid/store bought are crap... I wonder how it differed from the material I worked with..

No one seems sure if they work or not, except the vendors of course. I'd like to hear from just one person I knew who said he had been using it for a while and it worked well. A lot of people tried it and then have nothing to say.

Hey y'all! So this spring I received some petunia violacea seeds of Argentinian origin from a Shroomery vendor. I planted them along with some petunias from seed stock of my own, as I've been growing petunias for their beauty for a couple years now. This is a comparison photo, with the Argentinian strain on the left, and the run-of-the-mill large-flowered nursery strain on the right.

I have not bioassayed any of the Argentinian strain yet, that will happen later this summer, but I thought some folks might be interested in the obvious differences between the two different types of petunias. Anyway, peace and love!

hi, I wonder why this topic has been set aside for so many years ...

And yet I find Shanin a really interesting and easy-to-cultivate species, I haven't had any experience yet but this year I would like to contribute to the community. Do any of you have any news about Shanin? Or did everyone forget about her?

Never heard about it or tried it.
What i can remember now at least.

Maybe this thread was forgotten for 14 years for a reason, does it even work?
Anyone tried it and had a strong positive reaction?
Not a placebo maybe reaction i mean.
